How do you know?

Just had my hair and makeup trial and was disappointed with both.  Had a low up-do but so many bobby pins were showing -- is that normal?  Felt makeup just didn't flatter me.  How do you know if you have unreasonable expectations vs. that the stylist may not be the best fit for you?  Have you all had to change stylists after a trial?  Are there any you recommend (mostly for hair) for a simple style for a slightly older bride that will come to my hotel?

Do you have pictures of what they did? Maybe it isn't as bad as you think. What is wrong with the makeup? Is it too much?

I have heard of other people doing more than one trial. It is possible that your stylist isn't a good fit for you, or it's possible that you just didn't like the look that was created. If you had a good vibe and feeling with her, I would just try having another trial. If you feel like she just did not get your vision, try another stylist.

coming from a hair stylist...bobby pins should not show. if there are some that have to show because of placement, there are so many ways to hide them. i have done trials and weddings where i was not the brides first cholce, it did not offend me.  i think that every woman is searching for "perfect" on their wedding day and if you are not happy, try again. hope that helps!

if you think you just "may" be a picky person, did you bring pictures of motivation to show them what look you wanted. Sometimes its hard to articulate without pictures. Bobby pins should definitely not be seen. And makeup should be made photographic professional!!

I was in same position.  My first trial didnt go "perfect" so I had another trial with someone else. I'm glad I did this because it made me realize I liked the first one best - I just needed to work with her on specific adjustments for the day of.

This is why we have hair trials. To see if the hair and make up will be what your vision was for the day.

Thank God you had this trial. Perhaps find someone new, I really did not like that the bobby pins showing all over the place. Perhaps the low up do isn't a good style for your particular hair type.

Maybe try someone new. I am an older bride too!  I am using Cynthia Sally for my make up and highly recommend her, she works with a few hair stylists and other artists. She glammed up my eyes but the rest of my face was very soft and a soft lip. I loved it.
google her. Cynthia Sally Make UP
Tell her Stephanie recommeded you to her(we marry on 9-11-10) I don't get a cut or anything so don't worry, I just think she's great.
