Volle's Bridal Shop - Lake Zurich

This is my first post...so here goes ;)  I have found THE dress (a Maggie Sottero) and am very excited about it, but want to make sure I get it at the right place for price, but also more importantly service.  I was very impressed with my first visit to Volles in Lake Zurich and am thinking about getting my dress there.  Can anyone share good / bad stories or suggestions for Volle's?

I didn't shop for my dress there, but went this weekend to look at hair accessories, jewelry, etc. They were super polite and nice, I called ahead and they squeezed me in (turns out you need an appointment at most bridal shops to look at barrettes, who knew? A'Lamour was't very nice about it)

Anyway, the 3 hairpieces she showed me were $275, $250, and $450!!! Wowza! They were pretty but I could get them on Etsy for $50. So I guess I don't know if they are high priced or not. But I thought they were very nice!

Hello! THey were super polite until they have your money. They stained my dress and wouldn't fix it, and they weren't very nice after making your final payment.  I told all my friends to be careful if you go there. I had a lot of problems and three of my friends got married the same year. We all bought from Volles and all had trouble after paying. Also, I found a lot of their accessories and Bridesmaid dresses for so much less at other places. It's up to you, but just BE CAREFUL!! I am sure other people have had good experiences.

If you do buy from Volles beware of the hidden costs. The alterations will be about 400 dollars.  I can't remember the exact amount. Just know that doesn't include your bustle. It's 10 dollars per button, and they didn't tell me about it until after they did it. They put 16 buttons on without asking. Also, but the time I walked down the aisle, 4 of them broke, and by the time I ate dinner my entire train was down. My dress ended up ripped by 10 o'clock due to the fact I was dancing with a train.  Just be careful with the alterations, and remember be prepared to pay extra for the bustle.

I wasn't that impressed when I shopped for a wedding gown there (but I'm pretty sure my consultant was brand new). I ended up finding my dress and buying from somewhere else. I had a much better experience when we came back to look at bridesmaids dresses and we are ordering from there for BM dresses. We will see how it goes. So far, they gave us a 10% discount even though I didn't buy my gown there, and they do not have a delivery charge, so my girls saved a lot of money over buying the same dress from the store where I purchased my gown.

I didnt get my dress there but I did try on a lot there.  They were very nice and helpful.  The only downful is their prices - you can find the same gowns elsewhere for MUCH cheaper.

Got my bridesmaids dresses from them (my dress from Wedding Belles in Barrington).  They were very nice; only downside is that they upcharged one of my bridesmaid's $50 on her dress because she's a plus size, even though it fell within the normal size range (dresses went up to 24 or 26 and she was a 20).  They said it was a fee the manufacturer charged and there was nothing they could do about it.

Maybe it's industry-practice, but it's stupid- either make the "normal" size range go up to 18 (or whatever the cutoff is before they upcharge you) or just accept that it balances out between the all the skinny girls and the plus-size ones and unless you have to really custom-make a dress, don't charge more for something you say is one of your normal sizes.

Someone mentioned A'lamour- my sister-in-law had a terrible experience with them.  They charged several hundred for her alterations, then refused to listen to her when she told them that her strapless dress didn't feel secure.  They insisted it would be fine.  Well, it wasn't, and she spent her wedding day yanking the thing up all the time.

I just bought my dress there last week...a Maggie Sottero! They were having a trunk show so I got 10% off. The price was decent compared to other places I had been, plus the tax rate was lower.  Beware of hidden costs. Thank goodness my mom was with me and doubled checked the contract. The alterations are a fixed $315 and it is added to your bill.  Once you sign your locked in. I knew when I walked in I was going to get any alterations I needed elsewhere. When I asked the sales person about this she said it could not be taken off the bill, but a note would have to typed into the contract to include me going somewhere else for alterations and not having to pay. Otherwise I would have to pay regardless of what kind if any alteration I got! Crazy! Other places add this cost after....so make sure everything that is promised to you is added to the contract (in the computer).  I hope that I don't have any future problems.  All I have to do is pick up the dress and hope it's in awesome condition!

But don't know if you are near Oak Lawn, but they are having a maggie trunk show this weekend at Eva's. I went in November and they were offerering a 20% discount! I would also check with them.

Did you have issues with alterations after you made your final payment? Or where exactly was the problem. I just ordered my dress from there...they seemed friendly, but want to be on guard, just in case.

Hello coquis81! My mom read the contract too. The bustle is 10 dollars a bustle not included. It wasn't in the contract. They don't consider that alterations.I would call the store if you don't believe it. My friend had the same issue. Just wanted to let you know there was a "hidden cost"  Hope that helps!!

All of the problems happened after my dress came in and I made the final payment. They didn't seem to care as much after my money. There were a lot of issues that were red flags. Make sure you know that the bustle is not considered part of the alterations, so that is a hidden cost. It's not in the contract. I didn't have a good experience, and either did my friend, but I am sure others have. Good Luck and let me know if you have any other questions.

Also Coquist, I just read your last post and saw you weren't doing alterations at Volles, so disregard my last post.

I got my wedding dress there and had a great experience.  They actually gave us a really good deal on my dress (compared to the listed price and prices at other stores) and I also had alterations done there.  I think the cost of my bustle was $8 per point (maybe it was 10, I don't remember) and I don't know if it was in the contract, but I do know they told us this before we decided to have the alterations done there.

  • They are the worse place ever!!!!! Myself, my mom and my sister called 3x a week for 6weeks and emailed and no response!!!! I had to report them to the BBB which their score is a D!!!! All I wanted to was change stuff for my dress, now I'm demanding my money back!!!!
  • Oh wow, I had the most wonderful experience with them.  I got my Maggie Sottero dress there for the exact price it was supposed to be (Kathryn's tried to charge me hundreds more for the same one).

You can see my dress shop reviews at http://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=YQxBtQaO4dt5LLeQRWb2GA if it's helpful.

  • I want to say, I had a great experience there. I got screwed over at Eva's in Oak Lawn and then I called Volle's to see if they carried the dress. They did not but special ordered it for me to try on. They also gave me a discounted rate based on what happened at Eva's.

They are a little pricey but overall, I was very happy
