George Street Photo vs. Timothy Whaley HELP

Trying to make a decision and need feedback please!  I've been dealing with Timothy Whaley and have had issues with communication and concerns over photographer recommendation for us.  On the other hand, George Street has gotten back to me quickly and has been helpful.

I need to make a decision soon and would love to hear others' opinions.

I met with both and decided to go with GS.   I got a bad feeling right off the bat with TW and it was further solidified after reading some scathing reviews online about them.

I haven't had any issues with GS.  Setting up our engagement pictures was easy, they turned out great and we got the pictures back super fast.  They have been excellent to work with, responding to questions quickly and they have never felt pushy to me, unlike TW.
Of course, this is just my personal opinion, but I hope this helps!

My sister had MAJOR issues with George Street... her photographer was clueless and kept asking my sister and husband for ideas for picture shots, locations, and people for the pictures. She took no directive; she was definitely not the authority figure in the photography portion of their day.

They also still do not have their album... They got married May 30, 2010. This has been an ongoing battle between her and George street. Its a nightmare.

That being said, George Street and Timothy Whaley are both one of those giant companies that have tons of photographers and its a crap-shoot who you get. They could be fabulous, or they could suck.

If you're worried about it I would look into smaller, more independent photo companies. That way you know exactly who you're getting, exactly what their work looks like, and you have nothing to worry about. I met with both GS and Timothy Whaley and just didn't get a good feeling from either of them. We ended up going with Victoria Sprung and have been very happy. You just have to do what makes you comfortable.

When I first started looking I too had that same issue. With both companies. George street was better than TW.

We decided to cut the guest list and other frivioulus things and hire a better photographer after all was said and done. Photos were important to me and my fiance so that is what we ultimately did in the end. Photos document the day and we can use that more than $2k worth of invites.

i have a friend that used GS and even though their originally picked photog was "fired" 4 weeks before wedding they liked the photog GS assigned them.  TW was so so hard to schedule with b/c their downtown (south loop) appointments are few and far between. GS was very pushy during the consult (Ken Mantel) and it turned me off.  I switched it up and went with Edward Fox.

Thanks everyone.  Ended up going with GS.  I should have listened to my gut after we had all our consults.  I didn't have any issues with GS being pushy and I did with TW.  Communication with TW was AWFUL and it could just be the person we were dealing with.  At least everything else in planning has been easy!
