SSA name change question

So I'm a klutz and sprained my ankle last week on the day I was planning to go into the SSA office and do that whole process. My question is, does IL (and Chicago in particular) allow mail-ins for this? On the form it mentions mailing it in, but I know in MN(where we were married) they don't allow it. Does anyone know?

I just went to the office this week. Reading on the ss website, the only places they say don't allow mail-ins are places in arizona, ny, etc. (places I thought of as having illegal immagration issues)  We were married in IL but I went to SS in IN where we now live. I think since you live in IL you can mail it in. All I needed was the marriage certificate and a DL.

i think you have to go into the office...I did but thats because there is a ssc office 1 minute from my condo
