Reccomendations for a reception venue?

Hi all I'm getting married in Illinois however I live in Virginia, so we only have a limited amount of time we can spend looking for a venue when we travel out there this fall ... So I was wondering if anyone knew of any venues to just stay away from or some that you wouldn't think otherwise to try? We'd like to compile a list of 10-12 and then begin calling them intervieiwing them via the phone and then narrowing it down to like 3-5 places ...

PS the reason I'm getting married in Illinois is because I grew up there ... if you were wondering ...

The following are very popular and always get good reviews:

Independence Grove in Libertyville (events at Independence Grove.com)
    The Chicago Botanical Gardens
Ravinia (just started doing weddings) in Highland Park
    The Lake County Museum
Kemper Lakes Golf Club in Kildeer
The Seasons of Long Grove IL
    The Country Squire in Grayslake
The Byron Colby Barn in Grayslake
    Brae Loch Banquets in Grayslake
    The Arboretum in Buffalo Grove
Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington
The Onion Pub and Brewery in Barrington

Most of these venues are "1 wedding only" venues, which is very nice.  There are also many options in the Schaumburg area......narrowing down your geographic area would be helpful.

I highly recommend the Hyatt Regency Woodfield.  I got married there in May and it was wonderful :)  Check out my bio!  GL!

I would recommend the Evanston Women's Club (northern suburbs).  I'm not having my reception there, but I live in Evanston and have been to several very nice events in the Women's Club.  It is open to the public and host weddings.   I'm not sure what time of the year you are getting married, but it is close to Lake Michigan for taking beach/lwater pictures.

Random does anyone know of any rustic venues? If I were getting married where I live I probably would of chosen a winery and I know Illinois doesn't have them but maybe an apple orchard or something? Just random...

I would recommend the Seville in Streamwood.  It is located on barrington road just a few minutes off of 90- which is helpful if you are traveling from the airport

The Seasons of Long Grove, Kemper Lakes in Long Grove, The Vehe Barn in Deer Park, the Byron Colby Barn in Grayslake all offer a rustic-esque feel.....

Good restaurants in the Schaumburg area for weddings would be Wildfire or Maggiano's......Millrose Brewery in South Barrington is also nice and has somewhat of that rustic feel.....

European Crystal is a beutiful venue...the only reason I didn't go with it is because I had trouble finding a church nearby.  Good luck!

Ditto to Hyatt Schaumburg--my wedding is there next May!

Here's a list of wineries in northern IL, but I'm not sure which ones are available for weddings:
