Honeymoon Registry?

My fiance and I live together and there's not much we really need/want.  What do you guys think of a honeymoon registry?  And do you have any suggestions on which honeymoon registry to use?

Please check up the Honeymoon board.  It is discussed at length there. honeymoon registries are considered very tacky. Normally honeymoon registries only give you a portion of your money anyway. Set up a small registry and guests will get the hint that you want cash.

Also, what happens if you plan out a honeymoon and you need $3000 for the trip but people only give $500 total to the registry. Then what are you going to do? Plan a trip you can afford.

  • What @KatWAG said. Surely there are some upgrades that you could put on a small registry.
  • I like the idea! Why are material items better to give than a once-in-a-lifetime trip?

</div><div>I don't think it's tacky at all. I just wouldn't plan your honeymoon around it. We are using honeyfund.com and they have an option where guests can print free certificates and then just write you a check or give you cash to go towards something fun. </div><div>

  • I personally wouldn't think it was tacky if I got an invitation and that was an option.  I realize how hard it is these days for anyone to pay for a wedding, let alone a great honeymoon.  We are paying for every cent of our wedding so any little bit helps.

All weddings I've been to, the gifts are cash.  I had 2 gifts at my first wedding 15 years ago and the rest were all envelopes, out of 170 guests.  When I moved to Dallas I realized they do things very differently.  They think cash at a wedding is tacky.  I tried explaining it's gifts at the shower, money at the wedding.  But, I'm also Italian and that's just kinda how it goes I guess.  Neither way is right or wrong.  Some is cultural or regional.

The bottom line is that yes, it is your decision.  And if someone doesn't agree with it, then they buy you what they want.  Word it fun and nicely on the invitation and quite honestly, the guests will know you will definitely be using their gift.  With that said, I know nothing about these registries and how you get the money, how much is yours, etc.  But that's just my two cents.

    Good luck!

I think people seem to be missing your point that one of he biggest issues about most hm registries is that they are misleading. It might appear that a guest is paying 100 for you to go snorkeling, but really the company takes a cut and sends you a check for less than the amount the guest "gifted" you.

Personally, if I were a guest I would be upset if I found that out. At least if someone gives you money which they will if you have a small registry or don't register at all you get the full amount.
  • We had a traditonal registry with Crate and Barrel and a honeymoon registry with Traveler's Joy. Our Traveler's Joy registry was actually more popular with our guests and we had a fun time using it. We would recommend it.

Another excellent point. Wouldn't you prefer a check for a $100 rather than having your guests give a $100 to a website and then you get $85 back? Seems like a waste to me.

I also think you should pay for what you can afford. No one is entitled to a honeymoon. They are a wonderful luxury. If you cant afford one, take it later on. Dont ask your guests to fund it, esp through a website scam.

  • We had a honeymoon registry as 1 of 3 registries for our wedding. We used honeyfund.com as a nice alternative, and they didn't take a portion of the money.  The guests logged out and chose which item/activity they wanted to pay for, then they printed out what looked like a gift card and then enclosed it in their card with a check or cash. The reason I love this idea (and love it when my friends/family offer it too) is because... I am most likely going to give them cash as a gift anyway. But instead of saying "enjoy the cash!" I actually know what they are going to spend it on, and it becomes more of a conversation piece. Knowing that they had an amazing time scuba diving or getting a massage makes me feel great because I'm the one who "paid" for them to do that!  We loved it! Tongue Out

I'm amazed at the misinformation that is being posted - some of it with a hostile vibe. First, it's your wedding, so do what is best for you. We had a great expereince with HoneymoonPixie.com. We received 100% of our gift funds. Our guests paid a 7% fee (very clear at check-out) and not one of them complained. Problaly because they paid no tax or shipping. And they knew we were getting cash to spend on our hm. So they were cool with it. Our wedding guests were our friends and family and they WANTED to give us a gift we would enjoy. And the truth is we'll remember our snorkeling adventure forever (I can't say the same for some of the kitchen stuff we got). So we loved it and our guests loved it!  Best of all we were able to get our gift money transfered directly into our bank account when we were on our honeymoon. But everyone is different - do what's best for you!
