Went to an UNwedding tonight

They pretty much set up a ceremony and reception completely decked out with B&G, BMs, GMs, tables, flowers, cakes, the works!  It was all the show case the area's top vendors.

Wish they had served something other than cake!  Only Utah would serve cake at a 5pm-9pm reception and not warn people ahead of time!  And you had to stay the entire event to see if your name was drawn!

Anyway, it was pretty.  The room was so fragrant.  At each table was a vendor and we rotated tables.  The brides were a bride pin and vendors asked right off the bat, "When is your wedding?"

It was just so awkward.  I would say, "We have it planned for July 14th in Jackson Hole."  Then we'd talk about it a little, they'd ask why we chose that place, etc.  But then I felt like I was faking it, it was hard to show enthusiasm.  I'd feel like I had to explain and tell them that we are probably cancelling it.  I told them about my dad.  Maybe I TMI'd too much but some tables and others I faked it.  I probably shouldn't have gone, but hey I got some coupons on tanning and eyelashes!

I guess I didn't think I'd be interacting with vendors so much and more like browing, but it was very interactive.

  • My sister wants me to go to a bridal show and I'm dreading it for that very reason.  She wants to see if I can win anything like the tuxes or my dress, but I'm not sure it's worth the headache.  There's some new company doing smaller scale events that seems more my speed.  I got on their email list so maybe we'll try one of those out and see.  I'm all about saving money, but with all the other stress involved with planning a wedding, I don't really need more.

  • That sounds like a pretty cool thing to do if you weren't almost done planning / potentially cancelling your wedding.  I went to one smaller bridal show at my venue last year and it was great since I got to actually talk to the vendors and I found 2 of them there.

  • I wouldn't consider these events a headache in general, only if you're planning to cancel your wedding like me, xobride.

This was an event you had to RSVP to, and I did a while ago.  I think I'm done with wedding faires/events for now.  I just thought I had to experience them as part of the whole engaged period, since I did not the first time I got married.

Yeah - most of the shows are held here in January. I got engaged in August. By the time January rolled around, most of my big planning was finished.
