Rehearsal & Reception Dinner locations on Kauai

I am getting married in Kauai this November and am hosting a rehearsal dinner and reception dinner for 25 people.  Currently, I am deciding between Plantation Gardens and Tidepools (at the Hyatt) for rehearsal or reception dinner. Can anyone provide a recommendation- which restaurant for which dinner? Mostly, I dont want the rehearsal dinner to outshine the reception.  We'll be staying at the Grand Hyatt in Poipu, so locations in the area are preferred. I'm also open to other locations in the same price range.

Thanks!

  • Plantation Garden's is fabulous! That's where we had our reception dinner. The special events manager, Mona, and the rest of the staff were awesome and the food and drinks were unreal. It was by far the best we had on the island. In fact a good number of our guests said it was the best wedding meal they have ever had.

The other nice restaurants we ate at were Roy's and The Beach House. I personally find Roy's too loud to consider for one of these events. The food at the beach house was really good and it has gorgeous views but it also attracts a lot of gawkers since it's so open.

  • We didn't eat at Plantation Gardens, but walked through the propert since we were staying at the Sheraton next door. It was nice, but I liked how you were in the middle of a pond at Tidepools better. And I think most people would appreciate after what can be a long wedding day to have dinner at the restaurant in the same hotel they are staying at even though Plantation Gardens is less than 5 minutes away.

I think those 2 restautants are your best bet. The Beach House is nice, but it can get warm if you are seated next to the open windows as the sun will beat on that end until sunset. And there are a bunch of people that hang out right in front of the propert to watch the sunset as well.

  • Tidepools isn't great for food... if you want an AMAZING food experience, go eat at Josslin's. GAH. We went there 3 nights in a row, it was so good. They have a sangria cart! Otherwise, I'd go with the Plantation Gardens.

Also, if you're staying at the Hyatt, I cannot recommend doing the lover's escape package enough. My husband and I did that this summer and it was spectacular:

You’ll be presented with tropical salts, native Kauai Clay, and organic oils for you to apply and enjoy together in your deluxe lava rock shower and wild ginger steam grotto. Next, you'll enjoy a romantic, orchid-strewn bubble bath in your serene soaking tub for two.  In your private couple's hale, you'll then be treated to side-by-side Anara Massages and decadent Lokahi Garden Pedicures.

Thanks everyone for the great advice. We're going to reserve one of the lanais at Plantation Gardens for the rehearsal dinner and have the reception dinner at Tidepools.

And yes, a trip to the Anara spa is in store as well. Smile

Although you have already made up your mind, I wanted to also say how happy I've been working with Plantation Gardens.

I'm doing my wedding there in a month and a half.  Mona has been a PLEASURE to work with so far.  She's had great suggestions and communication.  I would suggest it to everyone (so far).
