New Maui Bride

Aloha everyone! My name is Ruth. My bf and I are getting married in Maui next March. I still call him my bf because I don't have my ring yet (it's coming soon!!). Its just going to be the two of us. We did not feel right asking people to come to Hawaii with us; especially since many of our friends, family are going through rough financial times. We'll have a celebration of some sort when we get back. Is anyone else doing this?I've been trying on dresses, researching hotels, wc's, etc. Has anyone here used Wedding Coordinator - Deanne of Precious Maui Weddings? I'm thinking of using them. Well ladies, I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you.Mahalo,Ruth

Welcome Ruth!!! We started out thinking it was just going to be us and now we're up to 30 people. A good friend (like our local mom) is giving us an engagement party but other than that we're not doing anything back here. Good luck and welcome!!

Thank you Sandy! Wow 2 to 30 people!!! What island are you getting married on? That's really nice that your mom is giving you an engagement party.

Welcome to the board! :)There are a couple of previous knotties that have used her. If I recall correctly they were all positive in their reviews of her. I believe there was only one bride whose only complaint (if she even called it that) was that she didn't feel as though Deanne came up with any creative ideas but that she was still very happy with how everything turned out. (I think her words were "she would be a perfect DOC") Good luck! :)What type of venue/location are you looking to get married?

Thanks so much Marie! Its good to hear that knotties have used her and they had positive reviews. Since it's just the two of us, we'd like to have our ceremony on the beach.I have another question. How do you link your planning bio in your signature? I created one on weebly, but I can't get the link right. TIA!

Put this code in your "signature box":<*a href="http://tinyurl.com/kkokx7"> My bio <*/a>I already "tinyurl'd" your webpage for you. Just make sure you take out the * in the code above after you paste it.If you're looking for a "toes in the sand" ceremony, there is a great small beach (it's a public beach but small so it usually doesn't get too crowded) on the south side of the island. It's called Makena Cove. MH & I took some e-photos there (some photos in my bio) and while there were people there, our photog did a great job catching angles where you couldn't see the other people. Just an option! :)

OMG! Marie, you are my hero! Thank you so much for helping me with my bio!!! Good minds think alike! Makena Cove is our 1st choice. In fact the sunset pic in my bio is of Makena Cove. :)

No problem! It was nothing really. :)Yeah, Makena Cove is gorgeous, though I haven't seen it at sunset (we took our photos at 10 in the morning) I'm sure you and your soon-to-be-fiance will be very happy with the location! :)

Thanks again! Out of all the location pics we saw; Makena Cove was our favorite. Especially since its smaller.

I haven't decided yet, but I spoke with Deanne and she was great. I really liked talking to her. We'll seriously consider her, and the only hesitation I have is that a cousin had a different coordinator/photography company do his wedding and he and his wife *loved* it. But if you haven't talked to Deanne yet, you should. I found her really reassuring and helpful about some of the details that I just had no clue about.

My FI and I are doing an on the beach wedding in Kihei at Kamaole Beach II, they have some great places for photos and our photographer is from there, so he knows the sweet spots, he lives like a block from the beach. His name is Greg Hoxsie and he is awesome, prices are great! his website is amauibeachwedding <dot> com. You should check it out, and we too were planning on have a small wedding and we are up to 35, you would be surprised how many people want to come to hawaii! Also look at Hawaiian Airlines "WeddingWings" program you get 5% off your fare. Anything else you need just let me know! Oh and Welcome!

Thank you ladies!! Gosh, everyone is so nice here!!!I have spoken with Deanne; she was very nice. I sent her an email requesting information and she called me the same night and followed up with an email. I found her to be very professional. I did a BBB check on her and she has a A+ rating, so that also puts my mind at ease.I sent her a message last night; waiting to hear back from her.

Welcome to the board Ruth!! Makena Cove looks absolutely gorgeous....I would have picked that if it would have been just the two of us. I'm also getting married on Maui and had to start planning before I got my ring :) I booked our site back in July and I just got engaged a few weeks ago. I don't know anything about Deanne....I'm using Lori Lawrence of Tropical Maui Weddings and she's awesome!

We're getting married on the beach on Oahu. And everyone is right.....you'll be surprised at how people will use any excuse to go to Hawaii and then you've got this huge deal. We're looking forward to the engagement party. It's a friend, not my mom hosting it. My mom doesn't live here and this friend we refer to as our "local Mom".

Welcome Ruth! You and I are almost date twins! I am getting married on March 15th :) I love the fact that it's going to be just the two of you. As a destination bride, I can't help but feel some guilt for having family and friends spend so much on our day. However, I was surprised by how many people are coming. I am from MN so the idea of being in Hawaii in March is so dreamy. You have come to the perfect spot to start your wedding planning. The girls here are AMAZING, so ask away! We all learn a bit more from each other's posts. Unfortunately, I haven't heard much about Precious Maui Weddings so I am not a big help in that department. I can't wait to get to know you better!

I used Deanne, and she was wonderful. The best decision I made for my Maui wedding. She was recommended to me by a friend who also used Deanne for her wedding.

Hi Ruth, I am getting married on September 18th in Makena Cove, just my FI and I. We are using A paradise Dream wedding for our planner and also the photographer and it is going to be just the 2 of us as well. I chose the coordinator based on the photographer that I wanted because I am a pro photographer so hiring a photographer was extremely important to me. I will let you know how it was when I return.

Wow! Thanks for the info ladies.I'm still in the process of booking everything. My first choice is Makena cove, but I guess our ceremony location will be dependent on where we stay. I've been concentrating on hotels in Wailea (Grand Wailea, Four Seasons), but I'm wondering if we'd get more value (price wise) if we stay in Ka'anapali (Westin Maui Resort & spa). I'm sure there are beautiful places to have our ceremony there too.I'm stressed as I'm still working on our hotels with a travel industry pal. She's getting doing everything for me :).
