Maui brides....any suggestions for wedding locations

I'm just starting with my wedding plans...and need some suggestions. I.m planning an August 2010 wedding in Hawaii....either Oahu or Maui. Actually, I am swaying towards Maui more.....but willing to take suggestions of location for both. It will be a sunset wedding with reception to follow....I was thinking maybe a private estate/beach??....any suggestions? Thanks!!

In Maui if you want to get married on a beach I would stay in the Kihei, Makena, Wailea part. Lahaina has some beaches that you can't get married on and also in kaanapali. A lot of knotties on here use Olowalu plantation, or seawatch restaurant, I'm sure they will give you lots of help. i am getting married on Kamaole Beach II in Kihei, then we are doing a Luau for the reception at the Marriott Wailea Beach Resort! Welcome BTW!!!

I'm having both my ceremony and reception at the Sugarman Estate which is in Makena. Its a gorgeous location and I recommend it! Pics are in my bio...

I'm getting married in Maui June 2010 at the Olowalu Plantation House. A lot of the girls on this board chose Olowalu. From pictures I've seen, it is breathtakingly gorgeous...completely private, with a big lawn, a beach and a perfect scenic place near the ocean where you can set up an arch for the ceremony. It's framed by two palm trees. It has a dance floor and you can use the plantation house the day of the wedding to get dressed and do your hair and makeup in.

Ditto on Olowalu.  It is the only place I ever considered getting married, even though it's totally a PITA for most of my family and friends to get there, too bad!  Haha, sorry, I'm on my second glass of wine, at home enjoying peace and quiet while FI is out with his buddies at a bar. There are so many great places, though, I'm sure you get tons of great suggestions here. Happy planning!

For private estates in Maui... Olowalu, Sugarman Estate, and Hoku Lani would be my favorites.  For semi-private/restaurants, there's the Sea Watch and Merriman's.

Yes, Olowalu is popular.  There are also the possibilities of reserving a beachfront restuarant like I'o in Lahaina...its on a beautiful sandy beach--fairly quiet and romantic.  The restuarant has a patio that you can use for the cermony or you'll need a coordinator to arrange a permit to be on the beach itself (for arch and chairs and such).  Flemings is popular too but I like being in Lahaina Town itself.  Its also right next door to Lahaina Shores Beach Resort which is a smaller, medium priced hotel--perfect if you are on a budget and very nice.  There are some houses that will let you rent them...try googling Lahaina Ocean Front Estate...but be wary and have someone check them out first--some of the Mom & Pops may not be very professional.

I just want to thank everyone for ALL the BEAUTIFUL suggestions. I am in contact with a wedding planner in Maui so she can help me narrow down the wedding venue. I am torn between Olowalu & Lahaina Oceanfront....sigh! Will update soon! Mahalo!
