Postcards for guest book

I love the idea of giving people a postcard to send back to us and using it in a guest book.  For those of you who did it, did it work?  I could see my mother walking around with it in her purse for 6 months before she remembered to send it out!  Just wondering if people did remember to send it back?  And did you give it to them in a welcome bag or at the reception?  Thanks!

I know several girls on the Aug '09 board did this, and haven't received anything back, but I also know that several girls here have done it as well.

Hi! We did something a bit different - "postcards from paradise" (more info in my bios) and asked people to send a postcard to us (we addressed them) and a postcard to a friend and we provided stamps. We hoped guests would provide a favorite memory from Hawaii or the wedding and 90% of our guests sent them back... it was so wonderful to see them all in the mailbox when we returned from the honeymoon (and were sad to leave Hawaii). I bought the vintage postcards at Wal-Mart on Oahu and they were very inexpensive. HTH!

We did this and haven't received any of them back... but I think it's just 'cause my family is a bit lazy!  hahaha!  We had a table at the reception near the escort cards and provided the postcards there, pre-addressed and pre-stamped.  We also bought our postcards from Walmart.  We got some beautiful ones in packets of 10 for $4.99 or something like that.

I really like the idea of putting that in the welcome bags! I might have to steal that idea too! :)

Thanks for the input and the idea (pretty sure I read about it on this board!)  Maybe I'll put them in the welcome bag but have some sort of guest book at the reception as well.  M&M- your comment made me laugh, that is so my family too!

We were staying on the North Shore so I picked up the vintage postcards at the Dole Plantation--Walmarts probably cheaper. I stamped, addressed and placed  them on a table at the reception along with pens and a box. I had a sign asking guests to pick up a post card write us a message sometime during the reception and place them in the box on the table when they were finished.  I also made an announcement letting everyone know how important it was to us to have them share this moment with us and have something to remember them by so please fill out a postcard even if it just says "aloha". After the reception my brother took the box and mailed all the postcards. I got back on Sunday night and received several today. Pretty cool.
