Luau or sunset cruise for Welcome Dinner - Maui

We are debating on having our welcome dinner at the Old Lahaina Luau or on a sunset cruise of some sort. Anyone have any suggestions or opinions on which would be better? If you have recommendations for sunset cruises pleae let me know. Or any other suggests would be great too.

Re: Luau or sunset cruise for Welcome Dinner - Maui

  • We were going to do the cruise, my preference, but FH and some other family members get seasick. Mixing food with that would not have been fun for anyone. We are doing the Luau. Just something to think about.
  • We opted to not go on a sunset dinner cruise while we were in Maui.  We really enjoyed the Old Lahaina Laua, it really is a nice experience.  FWIW, it is right on the water and you get to see a beautiful sunset =)  Depending on how many people are on the dinner cruise it may be more personal than the Laua, which has ALOT of people.  I do not know how they handle large groups.  But the seasick thing would be a really important factor.

  • I would go for a luau, it's something you have to do while you are in Hawaii. Yes, a sunset cruise would be fun and beautiful, but you can take a sunset cruise virtually anywhere. A luau is a good cultural experience. You can also see beautiful sunsets from the beaches. Just something to consider. How large is your group?
  • We had the same dilemma...but when I went to book the sunset dinner cruise, they would not guarantee that we would be seated together =( This was on Oahu and I don't know if Maui would be any different.  This was the deciding factor for us as we wanted to sit with our loved ones =)
