NWR: How ready are you for the holidays?

I'm slowly making my way through the holiday card list.  About 40 down, and another 20-40 to go (depends how far down the list I want to make it).  I've done zero shopping (although I have items picked out for most folks) and I just can't bring myself to go to the mall during this mania.  And I'm SO NOT READY for the Christmas music yet.  I wouldn't mind skipping Christmas all together this year, I think.

How far along are you ladies?

I'm in the same boat. Cards have *started* to be sent out, and we put up our tree and I've bought something for my husband... but MAN, I am behind and slow moving this year.

    Hi!

We got our tree the weekend after thanksgiving, it's only a 3foot tabletop since we live in a tiny apartment, the only additional decoration we do are stockings... which hang on a door hook :)   I'd say I'm 50% on gifts... can I say I love using ebates!  I'm doing the shopping for his & my famillies this year, and we each have 3 siblings,  plus our nephews & nieces!  As for christmas cards, I started a couple weeks ago... but have only sent out 2 so far, and handed one out in person.

I'm not stressed about holiday stuff yet, but since our wedding date is now just under 4 months I'm getting a little stressed about that checklist!

I REALLY wanted to click "Isn't that why we have amazon prime?" But I definitely reached the 75% mark today BECAUSE of Amazon prime. LOL!

Mostly everyone is done being shopped for. Cards were all sent out a few weeks ago. We need to pick up a few small things for some people still (a bottle of wine for the in laws, chocolates for my mom, nuts for my dad, something else small in addition for my gifts to Steve, and something small for his grandmother) but all of the big stuff is taken care of. I'm really proud of our gifts this year too and the money I've saved! :)

For the parents we got wedding albums through the photographer. It was expensive but to me it was a really nice thing that we wanted to do. For the three grandmothers we did books through picaboo. Between the groupon I bought last week and their BOGO deal right now I got all three upgraded to lay flat pages for less than $80 including shipping! Then we did some nice things for everyone in addition. I got my mom and grandmother the Millenium series of books in hard cover. I love it and I know they will too. I got my dad some blu-rays. We just ordered Dave & Diane a Filet Mignon and Lobster dinner from Omaha Steaks (hence the wine to compliment it), and I got Steve a few things he asked for and a few small things he didn't. I just want to get him something else so he can open more things on Xmas day!

Ask me how we're doing on Christmas decorations and the answer will be 0%, what decorations?

I sent  out all my cross country cards.  I need to send out the local ones, ZERO gift shopping done but like Tanq I know what I will be getting each person.  I'm hoping to do it all on Amazon and Target.  I refuse to go to the mall.  I don't want to kill  myself in the process of looking for parking or be cited for running people over in frustration.  I have my two siblings to shop for, his 5 siblings and two sets of parents and my brother in law.  I too could do with Xmas passing quickly this year.  I got my first real Xmas tree since the house is now somewhat cleaned up and there is room for one.  First Xmas in the house first tree!  Some holiday window clings and that's about it for decoration.  Also made a wreath out of tree trimmings.  I think I did a pretty decent job.

I've been all done with my shopping for a while, but can't seem to get into the spirit. I need to go pick up our cards, wrap everything and mail everything out still.  Guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend. UGH!

Oh, just to add. 100% of our shopping has been done online so far. The only things that won't be done online are the chocolates and nuts for my parents... even though I almost did those online too! Ha!

We are done with the exception of wrapping, but we are having all of the kids and their sig others over this weekend for dinner and our joint gifts, so we had to finish early. Makes it easier on them so they don't feel pressured to run all over the place on Christmas Eve and Day.  I would love for it to all be over.  The tree has my allergies going wild right now and although I love working from home, my office is my safe place right now.
Hearing some of the remarks about decorations and the lack of. I have been thinking that we will give my daughter and fsil a bin full of xmas decor as a wedding gift.  I always hit Macy's the day after and get some great deals on decor/ornaments and love to put them away for the next year.  Since she will probably be stationed by next year it may make things a little easier to have some starter decor.

Right there with ya Tanq on the Christmas music! I have most of our cards done but not sent out..a list of online shopping to do but haven't done any of it, other gifts to figure out, cards to do for our doormen and bldg staff that will go with their holiday tips and non-holiday related but equally important a long to do list of wedding stuff.

No decorations as we will be away for the holidays and the apt isn't big enough anyway...

I'm super slow this year due to work being insane!!! And my body/mind is a bit depressed since it knows we were in Maui this time last year....ahhh!

I clicked it, but I don't have Amazon Prime, whatever it is.  We did Christmas with my brother early, as it's their year to go to Phoenix with his wife's family.  Got tickets for FI to the World Junior's, so just need a day or two to find a team Canada jersey for him.  No tree yet, which is a big problem.  We're out of town this weekend for his company's Christmas party, so I think we need to get on this sometime this week.  Eek!!  No time.

Amazon Prime gives you free two day shipping on pretty much all purchases :)
  • edited December 2011
Amazon prime is $80/year.  As Brea says, it gives you 2-day shipping Free on many products (most that I buy, frankly).  Even better, that single prime upgrade can be shared with I think 3 or 4 additional logins.  So yep, about $20/pp per year to get free 2-day shipping on just about everything you might buy online.  And 1-day shipping is just $3.99 per item.  It has saved my butt many a time for birthdays & the like :D
