Flowers on Waikiki

Hi, Has anyone ever bought flowers from the market place on Waikiki and used them as their bouquet? I was thinking this would be cheaper than getting a bouquet made. I would just need to bring some ribbon with me to make the bouquet.

I don't remember seeing any flower markets in Waikiki, some girls have gone to Costco though

Where is the Costco on Waikiki? We aren't renting a car until a day or so after our wedding so we will need to walk from the Hale Koa. The market place I was referring to is supposedly a big market place with many vendors and somewhere there someone sells flowers. This is just something I was told, I have never been to Hawaii so I have really no idea. Thanks.

I think you're talking about International Marketplace?  The flower vendors there don't have bouquet-esque flowers to offer, if I remember correctly.  And ANYTHING at International Marketplace is a rip off :(  Basically, anything sold in Waikiki is ridiculous!

Costco is seriously your best bet.  The closest one to Waikiki is in "Iwilei" - which is about 10-15 minutes away.  I wonder if you could catch the bus or if it would be worth it to catch a cab?

    Here's Costco's address & phone number: 525 Alakawa Street  Honolulu, HI 96817-5764 ////  (808) 526-6103

If you want to investigate the feasibility of catching the bus: www.thebus.org

    Taxi companies that I recommend:
    Charley's Taxi - (808) 233-3333
    TheCab - (808) 422-2222

    HTH :)

My in laws stayed at the hale koa and i think they even have a flower shop there, my flowers were bought from beretania florist, you could probably walk/taxi there, it's near waikiki. My bridesmaid made the boquet. It was made of hot pink lilies and green spider mums, it was only like $30. Which was exactly what I wanted to spend, I only held them for a few minutes anyway and then they got tossed.

Heather~ I never thought of seeing if the Hale Koa has a flower shop. I love lilies and am looking to spend around that price. Its just my FI and I so I don't see the point in buying a huge bouquet when nobody will really see it. I do want something to walk down the isle with and for pictures!

I know there's a market at the bottom of Diamond Head on the weekends, right by the community college there.  There's a shuttle bus too from some hotels, but I don't know about the Hale koa.  There was one from the Aston Joy Waikiki which is about 5 min. up lewers street from the Hale Koa.  Perhaps that's where the market is??

As for Costco, I think we passed it on the bus to Haunama Bay (the 22, I think, also called the Sardine Express according to our driver).  He was really good about announcing what was at all of the stops since the bus was full of tourists.  If you don't need too many flowers, that might work too.

Hale Koa does have an on-site florist per their list of amenities! http://www.halekoa.com/about_us/list_services_and_amenities.cfm

I think kje is talking about the Farmers Market at Kapiolani Community College?  It's on Saturday mornings! :)

Have you considered maybe making a bouquet out of silk flowers and bringing it? :)

Thanks for the info. I am going to look into silk flowers too, but I was hoping to find fresh flowers at a cheaper price than a regular bridal bouquet.

I don't remember seeing any flowers at the market either. I would highly suggest that you call Petals&Beans and talk to Wanda. She will be able to work with you around prices, design etc. She is very reasonable, loves her job, and loves creating beautiful bouquets. And when you are having a small wedding (like we did) you want to have flowers you love and remember :)

Starlite - that's the market I've heard about.  Never been though, so I have no idea if there are flowers or not

Thanks for all help ladies. I'm gonna make a few calls and figure something out. I'm sure I can get something small for under $50.

I dont' remember seeing any flowers at the International Market either.

I'm looking to see if I can get flowers at Costco as well. Do you guys know what kind of flowers they carry there? Are they the orchids or just the typical roses, etc? I guess sicne it's a hawaiian wedding it would be nice to be able to get the lei's too. Any idea if Coscto does that? Thanks!
