Big Island on a Budget?

Just started planning, and am feeling so overwhelmed! We have a tight budget, and would LOVE to be married in Hawaii, but Im having trouble deciding on a venue, or whether or not to use a planner, or just try to do everything on our own... Any advice?

Re: Big Island on a Budget?

  • Hello and Welcome! From what I've read on these boards the Big Island seems to have less services to choose from, like less hair stylists etc. If you were to do the big island it sounds liek you may do best with a WC that could help you out. If you did a different island like maui it's VERY easy, thats where i'm getting married... in 16 days! :) Good luck. We will be honeymooning on the big island, we cant wait!

Thanks for the tip. We considered Maui, but we are trying to use our parent's timeshare points, and there is nothing available on Maui. Still trying to figure out the logistics....

Have a wonderful wedding and a great honeymoon!

  • Oh yes! that makes sense! Save money where you can :) I'm sure some of the brides on here will be able to help :)

    Hi,

We got married on the Big Island and we, too, were on a tight budget (we paid for most of it on our own). We had 40 guests, all who flew from the main land. We rented (2) 4-bedroom villas in the Kona Plantation Estates and then we also had an at-home reception back at home after spending a total of 3 weeks in Hawaii. All-in-all, our total out of pocket expenses for everything (all wedding related items) was about $16,500. We did not hire a WP....I did all the research on my own.
  • We just booked at the Royal Kona Resort. We are hoping to spend about $5-6K on the wedding so we can go on a fabulous honeymoon to French Polynesia. I feel so much better now that we have a venue, and Im excited to start planning all the details!
