Merriman's vs. The Plantation House Restaurant

Hello laides,

I need your advice/opionion again.  I originally planned on having a ceremony and reception at Gannon's, but they are booked on the date that I want  :(   Since it's a meaningful date for my fiance and I, we decided to look elsewhere.

Merriman's vs. The Plantation House restaurant; any pros and cons you can share with would be greatly appreciated.

Also, is it more cost efficient to use the coordinator from the restaurant? or outside WC (we are still deciding betw. Lori or Deanne)?  I look forward to hear from you guys!  Thank you in advance Smile

When we were last on Maui (keep in mind this was August '09), we got a gift card from our condo place for the Plantation House Restaurant as a wedding present (which was really, really nice of the Kahana Village). Honestly, I'm glad we got a card, because we were really disappointed in both the food and the service. The view is unbelievable, but everything else was a dud. Frown

We will be having our wedding at Merriman's in August and I too was debating on hiring Lori.  In the end, I decided that it wasn't worth spending an extra 1k to have an outside coordinator.  The special events coordinator from Merriman's has always been very prompt in responding to my emails and she's been pretty flexible with my constantly changing needs.  I really wanted to just have one point of contact for all my wedding stuff so I've been having Danielle (Merriman's coordinator) book everything for me.  I had already done some research on my own for photog, florist, officiant, etc so I asked her if she worked with the vendors I was thinking of and she booked for me.  Keep in mind that anything that they book for you are subject to a 20% service fee, however, Danielle said you basically just break even because the restaurant works with most of these vendors on a regular basis and they get "wholesale" rates.

I hadn't seen many girls post about having their wedding here, however, I found someone on Yelp that wrote a review based on their wedding so I contacted them and they said everything was wonderful and that Daniellle did an excellent job with everything.  There are also several postive reviews on TripAdvisor about the restaurant and food.

    HTH!
