Wedding Locations:Outdoor/Private/Public Ideas in Kona on the Big Island, Hawaii

Aloha,

We are trying to get ideas for a small outdoor wedding at a public park, garden, beach, etc. on the Big Island, Hawaii, Kailua-Kona side for under 50 people. We are being as economical as possible in the cost of the location.

    Hi,
I'm also a Kona bride getting married in April next year. Although I don't know of private beaches/outdoor locations as I am getting married at St. Peter's By the Sea Church. It's a catholic church but you do not have to be catholic to get married there. The church holds roughly about 20 ppl. You may also want to look into renting a private residence as some of them will let you have your wedding and reception on location. I am renting a 4 bedroom villa in the Kona Plantations and that is where my reception will be. I found it using vrbo.com website. I have researched and corresponded with many vendors on the island as my whole wedding is "budget friendly" and also DIY. Almost all of my vendors are already booked. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll try my best to help out any way I can.

    Happy Planning!

Hi! I'm also looking to have mine next March/ April (2012) and after stressing for several months trying to have a budget friendly wedding in northern california, I'm ready for a destination wedding. What is the cost of renting the little blue church? Also, several of the vacation home owners on vrbo said they don't do weddings. How did you go about it? Thanks!

The cost to rent the LIttle Blue Church is $550 payable when you want to book it so that date will be yours. There's also a $50 key deposit the day you pick up the keys. That price does include the minister IF you are having a catholic wedding and go through all the steps/paperwork involved. The man and I are non-practicing catholics so we are bringing in our own officiant. The church can provide a very small list of officiants but believe it or not, I found ours on Craig's List. His fee is $250 but that includes the conch blowing and other hawaiian blessings and personal vows. Our officiant is a young pastor at a Baptist church on the island and he's great to work with!

About VRBO...you just have to look around. The estate that I rented will allow weddings and receptions and they also advertise that they have a wedding gazebo, tables and chairs to use (for up to 30 ppl). You can take a sneak peek at the villa on my planning website that is in my siggy.

I hope that helps you some and if you have any more questions, just ask! :)

    Sharkbitemiller,

Would you mind telling me which vendors you decided on? I am getting married in Kona in February and am having the hardest time picking vendors. We are also trying to keep the wedding budget friendly, but the quotes I am gettin seem a little crazy.
Thanks so much for the info!

    Let's see...
I'm bringing over my own cook from the mainland and so I really can't help you there. I don't know how "fancy" you want everything to be and I don't know who you contacted already but I came across http://www.paradisegourmet.com

I am not using a dj. A good friend of The Man is a musician and offered to perform at both our ceremony and reception. When he's not playing, I will be using an IPOD. However, I have heard great reviews for Tiger Jones Productions http://www.djkonadance.com. I do know that some girls on TK have used him.

As for a photographer, I'm using Bob Brown from Eye Expression Photography www.eyeexpression.com. Not only was he a top pick on TK, he is wonderful to work with (via email) and has answered all of my questions in regards to finding vendors. His prices are a little bit cheaper than some of the other popular photographers. As a fellow photographer myself, I am happy with my choice so far.

I also emailed Ruth Anne from Ruth Anne Photography http://www.ruthannephotography.com just for shits and giggles. I really like her style as well and her prices were pretty decent (and very nice via email) but I had already booked with Bob.

I don't know who you are using for florals but I have to give a big shout out to Annie from Bliss In Blooms http://blissinbloom.com is also very wonderful to work with via email. Her prices are a little on the higher side but I'm considering on using her just because she's been awesome!

I hope this helps you some. :)

@laneymac1985 Try posting a new thread. This one is from 2011 and probably won't be answered by the OP
