Back from our wedding! Everything went perfectly and I couldn't be happier! Well, we did get a downpour 10 minutes before our ceremony, and then the power went out...but honestly, I was so happy I didn't even care that the beautiful DIY and etsy projects that I spent so much time on were soaked and ruined
It was the most amazing day (and week) and I can't stop staring at the pictures now!
Here are some pictures on our photographer's blog: http://www.simplyroseblog.com/an-oceanside-affair-2/
Anyway, I thought I'd post some vendor reviews, hopefully this will be helpful for some of you!
Ceremony & reception: Turtle Bay Resort
Our location was absolutely beautiful! We chose the Kuilima Point location, which was a big grassy point overlooking the water. We had the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all outside. We did the a la carte option, so only the catering and most of the furniture was done by the resort. The food was amazing. I never got to taste the appetizers, they were so popular they were gone by the time our photos were done. We went with the hawaiian buffet for dinner and there was SO much food. We added the roast pig carving station and that was a huge hit with all the guests. We opted out of the wedding cake, but the desserts in the buffet were more than enough and tasted so good. The reception ended at 9pm, and we continued the party inside at Surfer the Bar after that. Joann was our coordinator there and she was really great. She knows what she’s doing, and she really helped by being really nice and calm the day of the wedding. She was very calm during our pre-ceremony rain and arranged for staff to wipe down the chairs and everything. I have to say though, I was frustrated with Turtle Bay during the planning process - after we signed our contract, they were impossible to get a hold of, until the last month or two before the wedding. But in the end, everything turned out great. I guess they just have so many weddings that you are not a priority until the couple months before...I just wished they had told us that.
Officiant: Kahu Bruce
I booked Kahu Bruce after many wonderful reviews on this board. He was really as great as everyone here says. We communicated via email and phone before the wedding, and he had sent us his ceremony elements and some different vows to pick from. We met with him two days before the wedding at the Department of Health and he made the whole process so easy. I loved how he took control of the ceremony and directed everyone. We didn’t even do an official rehearsal. Kahu Bruce walked us through the whole ceremony when we met, and we just went through it with our wedding party at our rehearsal. I had previously considered hiring a day-of coordinator, and now I’m really glad I didn’t - between Kahu Bruce and Joann, we really didn’t need anyone else organizing things that day.
Make-up & hair: Sarah la GLAM
Sarah and her team were great. Sarah and I communicated via email during the planning process and she was always responded quickly. I booked her just based on her portfolio, and I had thought her prices were very reasonable. I sent her inspiration photos ahead of time, and had a trial appointment with her a few days before the wedding. She spent 2 hours trying different hair styles and re-doing the make-up...I had brought a couple bridesmaids with me and she was really patient with all of us. On the day of the wedding, she brought 2 assistants with her to do make-up and hair for 4 of us, plus a bit of make-up on my mom. She ended up showing me a different picture of a hairstyle she thought I would like, and I made a last-minute decision and went with it, and it turned out great! They were also great about keeping us on track with time.
Music: Randy Allen
Randy was phenomenal. He played throughout the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. It was exactly what we wanted for our casual outdoor wedding atmosphere. We had so many guests come up to us during and after the wedding to tell us how much they loved him. He was professional, laid back, great to work with, and replied to emails very quickly. Highly recommend him!
Flowers: Tamara Rigney Designs
Our flowers were perfect! Tamara was fantastic to work with and she really understood my style. Based on our conversations and the pictures I sent her, she had sent me different flower palettes to choose from. She was also great when I changed my mind about some things, and when I asked her to add some leis 2 days before the wedding. She included rentals of vases, reused flowers from the ceremony in the reception, and came back to pick up everything at the end of the night.
Rentals: Accel Rentals
We ordered lounge furniture and a couple market umbrellas from Accel. They were easy to work with via email, and the furniture looked great. We picked them because of price - lounge furniture was really expensive from some vendors. I never even met them as they set up early and came back to pick up after we left, but everything went smoothly!
Photographer: Simply Rose Photography
We brought our photographer from Vancouver, BC. Rose and her second shooter were fantastic. For what we paid, I think we got a lot more from them than what we would’ve gotten from a local photographer. We can’t wait to get our pictures back!
Rehearsal dinner: Ola’s at Turtle Bay
After our unofficial rehearsal, we had our rehearsal dinner at Ola’s, which is on the beach at Turtle Bay. Food and service was awesome!
Welcome reception: Tiki’s bar and grill @ Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel
We stayed in Waikiki for the first half of the trip, and we had a casual welcome reception at Tiki’s. We booked the lanai area and just ordered some appetizers for everyone. The service was great!
Sorry I didn't realize this was going to be so long! Let me know if you have any specific questions about any of the vendors! I have a feeling I will continue to lurk on this board for a while...I don't know what to do with myself without a wedding to plan!
