Plastic Totes for Travel

Some of the past brides have mentioned that you took your supplies on your flight with you in plastic/rubbermaid totes that were taped closed. My questions are, did the airline open any of them? Did you check them? I am concerned that if we duck tape it closed and they open it then something could get busted during travel because they didn't secure it.  I don't thing we really have much that they may need to look at but we did just get a deal on travel size sunscreens and I am now reconsidering taking those. How big was the one that you took? I am thinking mid size and only one.

You can get tubs that are very heavy duty so you don't need to duct tape them and have holes in the lig and handle so you can fit airline locks on them. That way they can be checked, if needed, and re-closed, but still secure.

You may want to consider just checking stuff. I bought 2-gallon size zip lock bags at walmart for less than $5 (they are pretty big and I think it came with 10) which fit a ton of stuff and double bagged them and they fit in my checked bag with no problems. Nothing spilled.

I also wondered about this?  Would the rubebrmaids containers you get say at Target work for transporting stuff to Maui?

Lyn- Depends on how heavy duty they are. You want to make sure they won't crack when being thrown around.

Oh my Kimmy, FI would love it if I bought a locker like one of the above and let him keep it after the wedding. 

Lorena, I will double bag them but I am worried about the glass vases, fans and bags that we are bringing as well.

Oh,ok. We had half of a large suitcase filled with the fans, starfish decorations, and OOT bags. Once I started packing I quickly realized how much stuff I could do without. Ha ha! I would suggest buying bubble wrap for any fragile stuff.

I know the vases will take up a lot of room. You could always buy one of those fixed rate boxes too and ship the not so fragile stuff to yourself at your hotel. We had our restaurant decorate with pineapples for our centerpeices. They were an inexpensive and easy way to not have to ship centerprices there. We had our restaurant cut them up after dinner and everyone wanted to take some with them to have for breakfast the next morning.

Lorena, I think I might just bubble wrap and box the glass, then put them in a carryon. There are only 10 of them and I am fine if one or two break. I just want them secure enough that the glass doesn't get into anything else if one does break. Everything else can get checked in a large suitcase. In fact that should be my goal right now. One large suitcase and one carryon. Now if I can stick to it.
