Hana, Maui-- Vendors

Hi all,

I've been MIA for a while since we have been deciding what to do. I had a freak out a month ago because we were planning for 11/10 and I didn't think I had enough time to plan everything. We ended up saying we were going to wait until March so I thought we had plenty of time.

Long story short, his work schedule has changed a little and now we are back on for 11/10 since most of our family will be in town anyway.... Enter official freak out mode!!

We have decided to go to Maui for a weekend with our families. Our photographer is suggesting we get married in Hana, which from the pictures is very secluded and beautiful. I guess we are leaning towards doing that but it seems so far away. Can any brides speak for what Hana is like in person? I feel like there is not much there after looking for lodging/dining options.

If Hana does not work, can anyone suggest a nice place for dinner other than Merriman's and Gannon's. I'd like to rent a house and have a chef made dinner if possible but if not we will need a restaurant as back up.

Also any vendor recommendations would be great! Is it crazy of me to think that we could get our flowers, leis, cake, etc. from somewhere on the East side when we arrive to Maui and then drive to Hana?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Hana, Maui-- Vendors

  • Congrats on your upcoming big day...deep breaths, you can do it =)

Here are my thoughts having only driven the Road to Hana:
It is beautiful but secluded with very few amenities along the way. There can be heavy, slow traffic, the weather changes quickly and is often rainy (though from what I experienced and saw, it doesnt last long).  Here is a blog I used in my planning that offered some great tips and the couple spent a few nights in Hana for their honeymoon.  Maybe your photographer can recommend a place around Hana becuase you really have to know what you are looking for since it tends to be secluded or off the road.

A few more thoughts from our experience:  Wai'anapanapa Beach Park is an awesome place with many different settings included a black sand beach.  The Seven Sacred pools a pretty but we thought they were overrated after everything else we had seen and they were EXTREMELY crowded, we felt like we were back home at a waterpark something!

We were married in Lahaina, I love this side of the island because it is dry and you have the beach/ocean on one side and the gorgeous Wes tMaui Mtns on the other, it made for some amazing photos.  There are also lots of amentities/vendors/etc.

Good luck, hope this helps a little.

  • Aww yay! that was my bio from our wedding!

Hana was my absolutely favorite part of the trip! It's so gorgeous and there's really no comparison between Hana and the other parts of the island, even though it really is all great. However, since it is so secluded we decided to make it a part of our honeymoon vs. the wedding itself.
  • Thank you so much!

This is definitely helpful. I am so torn between Hana and Wailea (the other place our photographer recommended). I really love the setting of Hana and the beautiful pictures we could get, but the choices for dining and lodging are so limited. Also it's just so far from the airport/civilization it seems.

I am definitely using some of these suggestions and we already booked with Maui Jeep Rentals... another thing off the list.

    Thanks again!
  • I agree with that! We got married in Makena (like 2 minutes from Wailea) and then spent a bit of our honeymoon in Hana. I think Hana is a beautiful place but it's nice for the honeymoon part vs. the wedding since it IS so secluded. It adds to the romance of it all. I wish we were back there now :) Today is actually our 1st anniversary :)
