Maui wedding 5-6 months?!

I'm new here ladies...was just engaged a week ago. A lot has happened in a week! My fiancé and I always knew we wanted to get married in Maui and we are making it happen! I have a tentative date at Olowalu- Nov 3, 2012. It's looking like I might be going with Lori at Tropical Maui Weddings...she has offered another date to me- Sept 27th. Here's my question for all of you...am I nuts to think I can pull this off is 5 months?! The Sept date is a weekday, so it will save me some $$$. Any opinions?

Re: Maui wedding 5-6 months?!

  • Welcome and Congratulations. You have time but there is a lot to do. I don't know much about Olowalu so some of the other brides would need to comment. Regarding the weekday date, If you are planning on being in Maui for a week or at least a few days then does it matter what day of the week? Also would this work for your guests? We are having ours on a Thursday, partly because we liked the date, 10-11-12, and also because it was cheaper for guests tofly home Friday.
  • Totally doable. Just be decisive! =) Olowalu is a great location.

Welcome and congrats!! How many guests do you plan to invite? I think if you were going to try to pull it off in September you may want to get STDs out ASAP so your guests have some time to save up money and request time off. I think it can be done, you'll just be busy in the meantime but it will be a fun busy!!

  • Or forget the STDs and just send out invites! That'll save on money and printing time.
  • I think we are just going to stick with November 3rd, it's overwhelming as it is. Just making the final selection of WC- deciding between Lori at Tropical Maui Weddings or Cherise at A Perfect Wedding. I like them both, but Cherise has a lower fee and we are really trying to watch the budget. I've read so many great things about both. Any opinions?
  • I LOVE Cherise. We have been working with her for a few months now after parting ways with our previous coordinator an Cherise is extremely responsive, organized, and is on top of everything. Plus the fact that she has a lower fee makes it all the better... I had brief interaction with Lori recently when one of her brides/a TK bride left some stuff with her for me to get and it took her almost a week to respond! Otherwise that's the only interaction I've had with her... We are also getting married at Olowalu on a weekday and so far so good...I like the fact that we're already saving money by just doing that! And overall, totally doable! Just make sure you know what you want and start getting things rolling soon! I agree with kaesha...be decisive. Good luck and happy planning! Congrats!

  • I am leaning towards Cherise...my FI is very thorough in all decision making, some wants to make sure we are getting the best for our money and that we won't get nickled and dimed. I appreciate all of your input...the date and venue is set, so time to get rolling on everything else!
  • I say go for Cherise! She was so sweet helping me through a tough situation with a coordinator I fired. Go with your insticts, keep your date since it gives you more time to plan things out.
I'm getting married there on Sept. 26th and weekdays save a bunch! However, the costs rack up quickly. I'm very budget minded but even I can describe how much the little things add up. Having the Nov. date will give you time to add the special touches and maybe do some projects. Good luck to you!!

Twiggy..I was just reading your planning website, are you doing your flowers yourself? I've also thought flowers are an area I can cut back on...if you have any other tips for budgeting or things you didn't expect could you PM me? Are you using Food for the Soul for catering?
  • Definitely doable.  We just got engaged on Valentine's Day and decided to just go for a wedding at Gannon's Wailea on October 13, 2012.  Just make sure that you get confirmation on the photographer florist, etc. and other vendors you want before making the final decision.  Also note that November can be a bit rainy on Maui (was born and raised on Oahu, but weather is pretty similar).  Best wishes to you! :-)

  • My vote is for Lori ! She was amazing throughout my entire planning process, recommended some incredible vendors and took care of EVERYTHING the day of the wedding. I couldn't have done it without her expertise and support!

Yes I am doing flowers on my own...it's cheap and really easy if you don't want anything crazy. Olowalu is so beautiful you just need splashes of flowers here and there. Let me sit down this weekend and come up with somethings for you to consider. Its so nice networking with other brides and I'd be glad to share my expereince :)

Yes to FOOD FOR THE SOUL!!!! YUMMMY!!!! I highly recommend and tell Tina I said hi if you call. I can give you their info too.
