Dress Steamer in West Maui

I am getting married in 3 months and I am trying to figure out how I am going to get my dress there. I called Alaska Airlines and they said that I cannot hang my dress in the first class closet. So I am most likely going to roll it up into a carry-on. I am staying in Kaanapali and was wondering if anyone could recommend a place to get my dressed steamed? This is going to be tricky since I arrive on a Saturday and get married on Monday evening.

Re: Dress Steamer in West Maui

  • Hmm, that might totally be tricky. I know the cleaners that over on my side of the island are all closed on Sundays and generally have a 3-4 day turnover.

I would call and speak to the concierge of your resort/hotel. Perhaps they will have a in house dry cleaner or can best direct you to places on the West Side who may work with them for just these occasions.

Also, have you looked into shipping your dress? If its small enough to roll up and fit in you carry on, maybe you can lay it out in a slim box with minimal folds and then hang once you get here.

    Good Luck!

I remember Brea had Vanessa Thompson of Silver Stitch steam her dress after it had been vacuum packed in a space saver bag. I'm more than likely going to have her stream my dress as well come wedding time!

  • I used Vanessa from Silver Stitch. I just put tissue paper over my dress and folded it up in it's garment bag and stuck it in my carry on. I still had room in my carry on for other stuff. We stayed in Kaanapali, at the Honua Kai. Vanessa works out of her apartment in Kihei (about a 35min drive), so she was fine for me to drop it off on the Friday afternoon and pick it up the next day when she was around. She was really affordable and really nice. She had a lot of wedding dresses on the go, so I take it she is pretty busy and experienced with what she does. Give her a call and see if she can turn around your dress over the weekend. She did a fabulous job with my dress, and she can do your groom's suit, as well.
  • Vanessa is amazing. :) She's in Kihei but it's really not too bad of a drive from Ka'anapali. It is a small island after all :)

We dropped my dress off to her Saturday evening when we arrived and picked it up Monday morning, the wedding day. I don't remember how much we paid but I think it was around $70 for my dress, a party dress, DH's wedding clothes & another set of nice clothes for him.
  • I call BS on AK Air telling you that.  They may not be able to say yes over the phone because it does depend on the flight and they don't want people saying, 'But you told me I could!' and throwing a fit.  I flew AK Air on a FULL flight from Anchorage to Honolulu and they put my dress in the first class cabin closet along with another bride's dress which was poofy.  What they say over the phone and what you will experience when you walk on the plane may be 2 different things.  AK Air was great to me, they even announced us over the speakers and gave me a lei!
