Indecisive about the photographers :S

So I'm having a dilemma.  I've been in touch with a few photographers; AnnaKim, Joanna, and Shawn Starr.  They are my top 3  (love Mike Sidney as well .. grr).  Deciding which one to go with is very difficult.  I love vibrant, yet soft colors in AnnaKim's photos.. they are like something you see in wedding magazines!, but she's pricey out of the 3 .. not by much.  Shawn ... I love his camera angle, artistic style, ... but not too crazy about the vintage retouched photos and his turn around time is pretty long!!! ... but his package price is decent.  Joanna .. her work is some what similar to AnnaKim's .. package price is a bit lower than Anna.

Thought?  Recommendation?  Comment?  I'd appreciate it!  :)  Thank you ladies!

As a photographer, I would say to look at the photos for the poses, angles, coverage style, etc. that you like best. Vintage retouching is something that is done afterwards. If you don't like it, they don't have to do it.

Colors are handled post-shoot. You can always boost the saturation of a photo, make it black and white, run a vintage action. But you can't take a photo from a different angle after the fact, just like you can't change an out of focus picture to one that's in focus.

If you love Shawn but you don't like the vintage actions that he uses on his photos, he just simply doesn't have to do it. Less work for him, and you get what you want.

BUT-- I say go with your favorite, regardless of price. Photos are the one thing that shouldn't be skimped on because they are the only tangible memory that you'll have and you want something that you'll love forever.

I've heard nothing but great things about Anna Kim, she was recommended to me as well.  I know that her packages are a bit pricey, but to me photographer is one thing I would dedicate my budget to.  I can't compromise on that point.  So I say go with which photographer you like best in style and personality.  They're going to spend your wedding day with you and you want them to get the best shots of you and your FI.  Good luck!

I am going with Joanna myself, I love her very natural way of posing and capturing moments, and she will work with on your price and everything, plus she is super nice.

I would say just go with the one that you really like the best, if you are not crazy about some of Shawn's editing styles, you can let him know, but that is his style and what he is known for. His turn around time is very long, because he is really busy with all his weddings, and editing takes a long time, but it will be worth it to wait. You never want your wedding pictures rushed.

If you like more natural photography, Anna or Joanna work well.

Don't skimp on photography, you will regret it later if you settle, go with the one you really want, because photography is one of the most important things, the memories in your photographs will last a lifetime.

All of those photographers are great!  However, don't discount mainland photographers!  We signed our photographers contract before we booked anything else for our wedding and she ended up getting pregnant and is due 3 days before our wedding.  This put me on a huge photographer hunt a few months ago and NO ONE on Maui could even touch the package that I was getting from our original Maui photographer.

Since I want as much coverage as I can get, along with a TTD, and digital copy rights, I ended up going with a photographer from San Diego.  She will be shooting I believe 8 hours on our wedding day, then we will do a TTD the day after the wedding, and she is bringing an assistant/second shooter with her for $3K.  This includes her travel costs.  She is a great photographer and has shot a few Maui weddings - 2 last month and one last April.

If you want any info, feel free to PM me.

Carino Studios is shooting my wedding in June.  Dallas and Mike have been so awesome to work with, and their prices are really affordable.  They were willing to work with us and find something to fit our budget.

Coming from a photographer in Maui, I would recommend Anna Kim! Nobody ever regrets booking her, she is an up and rising star here on Maui :)
