Addressing invitations

Hi! I don't post much here but I have an etiquette question for the invitations. The envelopes we have are shimmery and are smearing as they come through the printer. Is it tacky to use clear labels????

I'm just trying to save money and not pay to have them addressed by hand. Our return address is pre-printed on the back already. My handwriting isn't great so that's not really an option for me either!

Thanks for your feedback!

I don't love the label look, but that's only because I'm terrible at sticking them on straight! And, personally, I think crooked labels look tacky. Neither my husband or I have the prettiest handwriting in the world, but we opted to handwrite everything because it seemed easiest (and cheapest!) option.

I agree with Alyson - I am definitely not a fan of labels.  What kind of printer do you have?  Many printers have a direct feed option where you can fold down a back flap and actually send paper straight through.  This eliminates bending and smearing.  Laser printers work best -- inkjets are hit & miss.

Like Alyson, though, I think even semi-messy handwriting is preferred to print.  There's something personal about a handwritten address that is a nice touch.  We bought a cheap calligraphy pen from the local craft store and it makes plain handwriting look just a tad nicer.  I have heard of gals printing lightly on envelopes in a faint gray and tracing, or printing very dark and slipping it inside the envelope so you can see through a little and trace.  Would those be options as well?
