This week has been really hard

Monday
My son was very tired when I woke him up from school and he was draging ass. My grandmother picks him up from school and I get him from her. She called me and said he wasnt feeling well that he was just laying on the ground saying he is cold. I bring him home and he goes to bed at 6pm.

Tuesday
My son was up all night coughing, had a fever of 101, crying, saying he was itchy, the side of his face hurt etc. I make an appt for the doctor and take him in. Doctor says he is having a severe allergy attack and to double up on the allergy pills until the end of June. He said his sinus is clear along with his chest and lungs.

Wednesday
Again up all night. Didnt get to bed until 4am. Slept on the floor in my sons room. He woke up every 15-20 minutes crying and coughing to the point of almost puking. Needless to say he didnt go to school

Thursday
His father picks him up and keeps him over night. 7:30pm his dad calls me and says my son is coughing and saying he is cold and has the chills. No fever, no itchy, just the chills.

Today
Son stays home from school Again. He was feeling a little better but took a couple naps. His father came and picked him up tonight but NOW my daughter is showing the same symptoms of my son. She is 1. She has been laying in my bed and her bed since noon today and has been sleeping off and on. She wakes up crying, adjusts and goes back to sleep. She now has a fever.

My mother thinks I need to get a second opinon and this doesnt sound like an allergy attack. What do you guys think???

  • I've never heard of an allergy attack having chills or giving a fever.  Get a second opinion.

Ah the joys of motherhood. I agree with madisonpenny. Doctors usually go with the classic symptoms to make diagnosis. Did he run any tests? Since these are acute symptoms, I probably would skip finding another doctor and take them to the er. It took me a while to find a doctor I liked for my kids.
  • Oh no that must be difficult!! Is your son getting better though? If he is, it may be some kind of virus. But I would get a second opinion since your kids are so young and you want to make sure they're getting the correct treatments if needed.

  • I agree, go get a second opinion I have allergies and I don't go through all that

  • Call you doctor back and tell him that now your other child is showing the same symptoms and that it must not be allergies.  Allergies do not cause fever!  It sounds like some kind of virus.  Hugs to all of you!  Having sick kids is the worst!  I hope you get some answers and that everyone is feeling better asap!

  • Thank you!!

His doctor did the basics: weight, height, ears, mouth, nose, chest said everything was fine and clear no blockages and declared it was allergies.

My son is now 100% better back to normal minus a few coughs here and there. My daughter is now acting like herself. No fever and out of bed. but she does have blood shot eyes. Could be from the fact she slept over 20 hours last nite.

Im def going to just take him to the er next time.

FI wants me to start looking for a new doctor for the children anyway. He HATES the one they go to. I dont want to change them because my son and daughter have both been seen by the DR. since birth! But on the other hand I do see how this doctor is lacking interest. Very general statements and isnt very helpful. I asked to have my son tested for allergies to see which ones he has and he has told me its pointless becuase allergys change. But i clearly remember my little brother when he was 8 getting tested and finding out he is allergic to EVERYTHING! Which helped him stay away from the high allergic reactors.

  • I think you should definitely get a new doctor.  Allergies can be life-threatening and if your children are breaking out like they do, then they should be tested.  I highly doubt this is allergies and probably just a nasty cold.  I'm glad to hear they are better now!
