Are you kidding me?!

So apparently my family is totally wackadoo.

First, when my brother found out FI and I were getting married in HI, he told my dad that he had just gotten engaged, and wouldn't it be cool if he got married in HI when we're all there for my wedding?  Um, no.  And who does that?!  (he was talked out of it)

Then, when I was talking to my dad about possible photographers, he  suggested that after our ceremony, maybe the photographer could take some family pics of him, my stepmom and their kids.  Right, because the photographer won't be busy taking pictures of ANYONE ELSE.  (I ignored this and I think he's forgotten about it)

And last night my mom asked for my officiant's contact info.  Why, you ask?  Oh, because her husband suggested that they could renew their vows after our ceremony -- just when the MOB would be, what, sitting around twiddling her thumbs?  (I suggested they do this another day - one that isn't literally planned in 15 minute segments)

I feel like my relatively reasonable family has been possessed.  Hawaii is bringing out the crazy in them!

OMG, I'm sorry, but that's totally comical.  Lucky you, you could have a three-way wedding: you, your mom and brother.  Wow! It's like a bad soap opera.  

I'm glad you're able to just brush them off--good for you.  Your responses seem very sweet, where mine would most likely have not been...Maybe, on the upside, you'll be going back to Hawaii for one of their weddings/renewals soon?

I know, right?  The less evolved part of me thinks, Geez, what a bunch of piggybacking freeloaders.  The more evolved part understands that this is a very special and unique place for us all to be together, and they want to take advantage of that.<div>

WOW.  I'm so sorry that your familly is being inconsiderite to the fact that this is you and your fiance's big day, not theirs.  I feel like sometimes people think that just because we are getting married in Hawaii that it's not a 'real' wedding.  I have already started spreading the word that my guests are attending a wedding, not a luau....

Good idea.  I've had quite a few guys ask if they can wear shorts, and my response is always that this is still a wedding ... so no shorts, please.  I mean, I'm not going to kick them off the beach if they're in shorts, but I'd rather they put on a pair of pants.<div>

ha!  We had 3 couples who are engaged at our wedding and we all joked about them standing up after us and having a quickie ceremony!  Had they been serious, I would have demanded payment!

OH MY!  That is crazy. 

You have a very gracious evolved side.  I think I would have been much more upset in that situation.  I hope that's the last time someone tries to "freeload" on your special day!

Hehehe!  Yeah... "hawaii" & "wedding" definitely brings out the crazy in some people!  My mom wanted to piggyback off of our wedding and tried to get married in Hawaii too! To be fair, she at least offered to have it on another island...  :-/   seriously???

Wow!  Good for you for taking the high road, I would hope that I would be able to take the high road as well.  Thankfully no one has brought any of these situations up.  Gotta love family.
