Hawaii

I finally found MY dress & started a House Blog

Double WIN!  Hahaha good morning my fellow Hawaii brides.  Mind my over cheerfulness, I am high on coffee since this past weekend was packed full of activity and I was dead tired this morning.

First off I found my dress, I had a appt. at a smaller bridal salon.  My bridal consultant was fantastic.  I felt much more comfortable with her.  I showed what I liked and she pulled those dresses plus a couple more based on what I told her I liked and disliked.  In total I tried on about 8-10 dresses.  The second dress I tried on was a more Grecian goddess dress of chiffon over satin and as beautiful as that dress made me feel it was so heavy.  The next contender was a rouched bodice with a sweet heart neckline that had a ballgown skirt.  If I were to get that dress I would have taken some of the crinoline out of it to make it less poofy.  That dress also had pockets but the dress that I eventually bought was this one: (sorry I don't have pictures, the salon doesn't allow photos to be taken)

It wasn't something that I had imagined that I wanted but when the consultant showed it to me I though oh what the hell why not and instantly my bestfriend/MOH, FI and I fell on love with the dress.  I knew this was the one!  The shoulder strap is removable, so I'm not going to use it, I can't pull off a one shoulder look.  The flower on the bodice I might leave or take off and make a hair piece out of it.  Afterwards the consultant let me try on some tea length gowns and we had a fun vintage fashion show.

Second I spent the rest of the weekend working on the house, first project was to demolish the guest bath, which FI and I did.  Started at 9 am, had a lunch and dinner break and two trips to home depot.  I got my own hammer and crow bar and got to rip and smash things out.  We have everything bought except for the tub and are ready to build teh bathroom back up when the tub is decided.  I am documenting the whole house remodel on a blog for FI's dad who lives in Denmark and any other family and friends that are interested in seeing what's going on.  The link for the blog is in my signature below.  I hope you enjoy reading it and check in every once in a while.

YAY!  Your dress is so pretty.  It seems light and flowy while still being bridal...a really nice mix for Hawaii.  I love when they make features like the strap removable, because you could always modify the strap into something else for the reception part of the night (a change of look, and when you set the bouquet down, to not look as plain).  One of my favorite dresses ever came with a big silk pin-on flower which I thought I'd wear at the reception only.  :)

Holy cats that house remodel looks like serious work!  My favorite picture so far is the one with your little pup in the photo though.  Bigger picture of the furbaby, please!

We took out the bathroom mirror and placed it in the hallway.  Maus walked up  to it thinking there was another puppy on the other side.  For a good five minutes she was pawing and licking the mirror trying to say hello to the other weimeraner puppy aka her reflection.  FI and I were laughing so hard I barely got a chance to grab the camera.

MAUS!!!  *swoon*  I love her so much.  That story is hilarious.  Tanq did something similar.  First night we spent with him at DH's childhood home, we heard this growling shortly after we fell asleep.  He had spotted his reflection in the mirrored closet door and was threatening "the other dog" to back off his turf.  We almost died laughing.

I <3 funny puppies.  Tongue out  Thank you for making my afternoon!

That's a beautiful dress! I can't wait to see pictures of it on! Kind of sad that they wouldn't let you even after you bought it. I actually hung out in the sample dress as the card was being charged just so I could take a picture. Is it a maggie sottero dress? BTW where did you get the dress? Your experience sounds exactly like mine. I had a lot of ruffly dresses in mind and my consultant thought a totally different dress would work better with my body type.  I got mine at Ginny's Bridal in Huntington Beach.

I guess if I asked I could they might have let me take a picture.  I just wasn't thinking too clearly as I was so happy to have found it.  I drove by Ginny's all the time when I was living in Huntington Beach.  I bought the dress at Ferndale's Bridal in the city of Orange.  That place was just full of such pretty dresses.

Thank you ladies, I love my dress and so happy to have found it.  Now on to fixing a house so that Maus has a place to live.

The dress is great! I love that you were looking at retro tea length dresses, like I was, and then also decided to do with something completely different.  Doesn't what you got feel so much more bride-like?

I just realized you are getting married before me. WT? I swear everyone who came on after me is getting married before me. :)

FI and I loved the tea dresses and would have loved to get that as a reception or dress for another time but couldn't justify the $$$ but then I can hopefully find a tea dress in my price range else where.

I may be getting married before you Kimmy but you are WAY ahead of me in planning!  I need to step up my game <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />

Moto, Not sure how I missed this one, but congrats on finding your dress and on the start of the remodel. Love the dress. I like the strap but glad it can be removed.
My ex and I remodeled a 1907 craftsman and boy was it a lot of work. Looks like you have it covered though. Good Luck cant wait to see finished pics.
