Debating about Transportation

I am debating about our shuttle now.  We will be renting like a 7 pass SUV for $450 for 1 week and we were planning on a shuttle for the guests.  I know a few people will be renting cars.  Not sure what to do, I know it will be easier to rent a shuttle.  Our ceremony and reception will be at Paradise Cove.

What is everyone doing regarding transportation if their ceremony is about 45 mins away?

Were having our guests rent cars the day of the wedding & not providing transportation.

I'm debating about a shuttle too. Is it expensive? My venue is north shore and everyone will probably be staying in Waikiki or Honolulu area. They will also have rental cars...

We decided not to shuttle our guests because of the cost.  Plus, all of our guests are adults and we are hoping that they can police themselves in terms of alcohol.

We were looking at group transport as well but decided against it as our guests will be staying no more than 15 minutes give or take from our venue.  At the end of the evening we will have two limos...one for us and one for our bridal party and close family.  However, if they had to drive that long of a distance more than 30 minutes in an area that they are unfamiliar with then i would provide a guest shuttle.  Just a thought...on your RSVP card you can ask your guests if they would be interested in taking a shuttle...that way you'll know how many are and if it is worth it or post the question on your website if you have one. We shuttled for a few reasons:
    1. Aussie guests unfamiliar driving in US
    2. Difficult to find
    3. Far away (30min)
    4. Limited parking
    5. Didn't want anyone to have to be DD

In South Maui, Akina is the best because you don't pay as much bus-barn time.

After a recent conversation with a coordinator we have decided to not get a limo or shuttle. Our site is about 10 to 15 mins away and she said for the amount of time we would use it and the 4 hours it would sit in the parking lot was not a wise budget decision. She also mentioned it would be easier to order a cab for anyone that could not drive and a lot cheaper.

great discussion! Our venue is far away, 45 minutes from Waikiki. So for those whose venues are far away, did you just provide directions? I think it is a good idea and the cheapest rate I found for pick up and drop off only is about 470 for 2 vans and 1 shuttle is about 550. That's a chunk of change since we are on a budget. aahhh hate budgets!

Our venue is in kaneohe and the guests will be in waikiki which is probably 30 minutes. I'm planning to print (either from vistaprint or my own cardstock) direction cards with a map and step by step instructions. I wish we could afford to get a shuttle but you're right, it's a big chunk of change. Not to mention, i've never been to a wedding where they provided transportation (although they're usually local and i've only been to one destination wedding).

I think some previous Oahu brides rented school buses for transportation and that turned out to be a budget option.  I agree it's a good idea to get an estimate of how many guests would be interested in transportation first before booking anything.  If enough guests are renting cars, it might be possible to arrange some carpools.

You know a lani bride... rented a school bus...very economical.

    Link to her bio...http://ginajadeplanningbio.weebly.com/index.html

Transportation: School Bus by Roberts Hawaii.  MUCH cheaper than a charter bus (about 1/3 the cost).  They picked up at 2 stops in Waikiki and were right on time (actually they were really early haha).

We didn't rent anything for our guests. Because they elected to stay in different venues, the cost would have been too much for all the different stops.

I think it's a great thing to do, if you can afford it, but if it cuts into other areas of your budget, then I wouldn't bother.

Thanks for all your help!  I think for the most part we will have enough cars for transportation and we have decided to not do the shuttle, thus saving $550!  Yes!! :)  It's a really laid back wedding and if we didn't have a budget, it would have been nice, but that money can be used for something else!  :)  TY!
