Scavenger Hunt

Did any of the past brides or is anyone up and coming doing a scavenger hunt with their guests. We were thinking we would give the hunt details at our Welcome BBQ and then when we meet for the Rehersal Dinner two nights later give prizes to the people who come back with the most pics of what they found.  The problem is we haven't been to Maui before. I can get some ideas online but FI would die if I brought my laptop and was printing game sheets for this so we need to preplan it.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Scavenger Hunt

  • What's your goal with the scavenger hunt? Ensuring people see big things like Hana and Haleakala or smaller things like the poke? I'd err on keeping it simpler, maybe with some of the bigger things as bonus points? I personally would just not participate if it meant I had to drive all over the island seeing things I had already seen. Some thoughts of things you can find all over: - spam musubi - poke - pineapple - papaya - sunrise or sunset - plumeria flower - tropical drink

  • Welcome back Tanq. We missed you.

The goal would be for our guests to get out and about, in the Kihei, Wailea/Makena areas. Everything we have planned is in those areas with the exception of a drive to Hana and not sure how many are going to do that. We are thinking of maybe pics at certain landmarks to those areas. Certain beaches, the oldest restaruant, etc...

The items you listed are also good. I would not have known about the spam musubi. Items like the plumeria (maybe still on the plant) or an umbrella on a drink would be a given.

Our family and friends are very competative so I know that whatever list we give them they will go above and beyond to out do each other and then argue with reason why theirs is better than cousin or friend so and so. We were also thinking we would get the prizes on Maui so it would be a little more special than just a trinket.
  • I love it! My husband and I arranged one of those in Japan one year. We set up teams and people had a 3 hour window to go travel and get stuff done. We considered doing one for our wedding, but in the end we ran out of time. I know for the one we did in Japan, we used google street view to check out landmarks down one of the highways...

  • Alyson, Thank you for the google streets idea. I always forget that. I used it when we were looking at places to stay. Gives a pretty good visual.
