Maui Wedding Help

Hello ladies! My fiance and I are newly engaged and planning our Maui wedding for May 6, 2013! We have both never visited the island and looking for reccomendations. We are thinking of having a small beach wedding (South Maui - possibly Makena area). Our rough guest list is around 30-40 people. I have read that most of the beaches accomodate parties of up to 20... Does anyone know if permits are given for beach wedding with slightly bigger parties?

Also, I have been doing alot of reading/reviewing online for vendors. I have noted a few that have high reviews but want to make sure I pick the right ones. Any reccomendations are greatly appreciated!

I have the following vendors in mind:
Airbrush makeup - Jessica Waite
Cake - Maui Wedding Cakes

Any reviews you girls can give would be great!

Thank you! =]

Re: Maui Wedding Help

  • We had 29 guests at a beach wedding in Makena, and it was perfect.  Pics and info in my bio.  So it's totally doable.  If you need more room, you'll probably want to head over to Kihei (check out Po'olenalena Beach and Keawakapu Beach - both bigger, although more populated, as well).

Something to keep in mind is that on the beach sound amplification is a technological challenge.  We didn't have it.  The larger your group, the greater the chance the people won't be able to hear what you're saying.  It's just something to think about, and plan for as best you can.

We loved our beach wedding in Hawaii, and wouldn't have done it any other way.  Have fun planning!

  • We are marrying on Po'olenalena Beach in the morning. When we booked our officiant he told us that there is just an increased cost for additional people. I think the permit is good for 10 but it maybe 20 and then you add from there but we are paying him to take care of it.  You also need to think about your guests and if they will be able to stand. The beaches in HI do not allow chairs.
I don't have any reviews yet because we are a few months out but I have heard Jessica is fantastic. I decided to use two less expensive hair/makeup stylists, but both with great reviews, on my day because I could get them both for the cost of Jessica.
  • I used Jessica, and she was lovely. The airbrush make-up didn't budge at all, even through tears and kisses and hugs. I don't wear a lot of make-up normally, so I was worried about the wedding make-up looking heavy. I needn't of worried. Jessica did a fantastic job and I still looked like myself. I was really happy that I booked her for make-up.
  • Thank you for all of the great information ladies!
