Table topper thingies

Ok, so our invites had lots of extra pieces when I put them together, one being almost 20 extra of the little squares with hibiscus on them that were used to close the flap on the envelope.  SInce we have them in three colors, I was thinking to use them as escort cards (or whatever they're properly called) and add a persons name to it to designate which meal they are getting - chicken, beef or fish.

What I need is something to attach them to so they don't blow away.  I've seen some shells here with notches in them.  Where did you ladies find those?  Any other ideas on where to buy this kind of stuff?  Writing names is about as DIY as I can get with this.  Anything beachy, tropical, fun will work so send me your ideas please!!  Thanks!!

  • I've seen the seashell placecard holders at Michaels, but I don't know if they are a seasonal item.  I think there are some destination wedding type vendors that sell this stuff online.  Amazon has some too.

Are you doing any sort of favor?  If you are, you could always tie them around the favor -- I've seen gals do this with Wailua soda bottles, for example.  We skipped place cards all together, and I'm so glad we did.  It was crazy windy on our wedding day, and we just had a framed poster that had the table assignments listed.  We didn't have meal choices though!

I've also seen a sand tray, so if you make yours like a tented triangle, you can bury the flat bottom part in the sand tray, so they're less likely to blow away.  And you can always buy cork board or wood and pin the strips of paper which will also be good to prevent them from blowing away.  I've seen clothespins on a string, but I think that will catch a ton of wind without a board or something right behind it to help break the wind.

  • Hmm.  Thanks or the ideas Tanq.  They're single pieces of paper, so nothing to fold.  It was just an idea with so many left over to use them for this.  We're probably not doing assigned seating, so this is the only way we've got other than asking to designate who is eating what.

  • How many of the shells with the slits do you need? I have extras and could sell them to you. Let me know.
  • Not beachy, but dinner appropriate would be to cut a slit in some wine corks to hold them. You would have to cut the bottom of the cork flat so it wouldn't roll.

  • I also remember seeing a basket full of shells at the Dollar Tree. You could always glue the cards to the shells instead of buying some with slits.

  • Thanks ladies.  Lorena, we don't have dollar tree here, but I'll check into our dollar stores and Michaels. Kimmy, I'll have to let you know as we don't have numbers yet.  We're estimating maybe 40 people -ish?  How many do you have?

  • I have a bunch.  I bought them off another bride.  I'm using only about 20 of them.  I'll count them and let you know how many more I have.
  • You could tie them to small starfish with ribbon in your wedding colors. I did that to assign people to tables and everyone loved them. They looked so cute! The starfish were from Koyal Wholesale. I think there are pictures in my bio...
