Wedding coordinator help!

I am getting married March 2013 at the Turtle Bay Resort and sooo lost in determing if we need to hire a wedding coordinator.  From what I know so far, our catering manager is only helping with the resort side of things and not so much planning the event.  I've done a lot of research already for photographers/florists and those types of things but can't seem to make a decision. Is hiring a coordinator really worth it???

Re: Wedding coordinator help!

  • I am in exactly the same boat. We are getting married at the JW Marriott Ihilani in Koolina and we have an event coordinator with the hotel. But they actually suggested we hire a wedding coordinator because I was told that the hotel event coordinator will only work on things directly related to the hotel. Eg. catering, setting up the ceremony chairs that they will provide, setting up the banquet. For all other vendors that will need to be managed, they have suggested hiring a wedding coordinator. I think from the advice I have received from other brides on this forum, I will bite the bullet and hire one. I don't want any of my out of town guests to have to help us with the organization of the wedding, and I don't want to be stressed. $1200-1500 is the average price of a day coordinator though and that is hard to swallow. Although most of the girls here have said that they don't only help with your on the day coordination, but they will help you develop a timeline a month or 2 before, and they will also look over all your vendor contracts and be a liason for you and the vendor.
  • I'm doing it without a coordinator, in part because I am having a five month engagement, so there's just not a lot of time to evaluate options.  I'm forced to act quickly.  When I initially reached out to WCs, they were either booked (b/c I was reaching out so late) or they took a long time to get back to me because they were swamped with other more iminent weddings.  I made more progress on my own.

I'm sure it would be helpful to have a cordinator, especially on the day-of, but at the end of the day I wanted to spend the money on other things.  Honestly, except for our total failure to immediately lock-in an officiant, I'm not sure what we may be missing out on.

I'll let you know in a month if going without a WC was a big mistake.....  :)
  • although we ended up a private estate and not a hotel, there were still so mahy "little" things that we would have screwed up if not for our WC.    We decided to do a lei exhchange in our ceremony and she noticed we had not ordered our leis.  We assumed florist provided flower girl basket, but we only ordered petals, I even forgot my garter belt and she had a spare!
