Request a copy of your Hawaii marriage certificate now available online!

I just found out that I can request a copy of my marriage certificate online (State of Hawaii website), instead of waiting 3-6 months for the original certificate.  You can always send in the so-called "blue form" to request a copy, but now you can request it online for $10.00 + $1.50 = $11.50.  The extra $1.50 is worth it to me.  I just ordered it today, so I will let you know how long it takes to receive it.  I already received a confirmation email saying that the "record has been located" and will be send out via U.S. mail.  So hopefully it is much quicker than mailing it in :)

Here is the website: www.ehawaiigov.org/ohsm">www.ehawaiigov.org/ohsm

All applications requesting certified copies of birth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates must generally be made in writing (application forms may be downloaded from this site - see below). Requests may also be placed for birth and marriage certificates on a limited basis through the Internet (www.ehawaiigov.org/ohsm">www.ehawaiigov.org/ohsm). Telephone, FAX, or e-mail requests are not accepted. Fees for certified copies of birth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates are identical:
  • $10.00 for the first copy of each certificate, and
  • $4.00 for each additional copy of the same certificate ordered at the same time.
There is an additional fee for requests made through the Internet as follows:
$1.50 for a request of one (the first) copy of each certificate, if the requested certificate is found, or for the cost of conducting the search, if the requested certificate is not found, and
  • $0.25 for each additional copy of the same certificate ordered at the same time.
  • Fees may be paid by cash (except for applications made by postal mail), money order, certified check, or cashier’s check - make money order and checks payable to the State Department of Health.
PERSONAL CHECKS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Fees must be paid by a charge to a credit card for requests made through the Internet. All fees for certified copies are payable in advance and nonrefundable. If no record is found after a search is conducted, the fees are retained to cover the cost of the search.

For the record, it didn't take anywhere near 6 months for us to get a certified copy of our marriage certificate last August.  More like 2.  And we didn't pay extra to expedite.

It looks like this this website just offers you the ability to order online a copy of a certificate that already exists (birth, marriage, death, etc.).  When you're newly married, the form that you submit has to be sent to the Hawaii central records location to be processed, then copied, stamped certified, and sent out to you, so it takes time (esp. when you get married at a peak season for them, I'd guess).

Thanks for the info....are you saying it only took 2 months to get your "original" marriage certificate or a certified "copy" of the marriage certificate?  As it was explained to me by the officiant....the original marriage certificate will be mailed out within 3-6 months or you can pay an extra $10 to get a certified copy much quicker (around 4-6 weeks).  I had a friend who got her original after 3 months, so if it only took you 2 months...then that's not too bad.
