Maui rental VRBO or Home Away recs?

Hello.  We're getting Maui'd Stick out tongue this Sept. and are looking for a place to stay for two weeks.  It'll just be the two of us so a studio or one bedroom beach front will suffice.  Any recs on places that you've stayed or owners that you've worked with?  I just don't know how to search on these sites because there are so many listings!  TIA!

  • I haven't stayed in any VRBO properties on Maui, but I recommend narrowing your search down. Use the search parameters (check-in/check-out dates) and also know where you want to stay. Do you have an idea of which area you'd like to stay in?

Also, I typically sort results by sleeps: low to sleeps: high so it pulls up all the studio rentals first.

My other tip is to inquire with several properties because some owners don't update their calendars, some don't even utilize it, and some don't even respond. But I've noticed with Maui, they respond quickly and follow-up with you (I booked 2 vacation rentals for our dads and their families for our wedding week).

  • Diana definitely points you in the right direction.  I would narrow down the area in Maui you want to stay and just look at reviews.  I have a majority of my family and wedding party as well as some guests staying in the same condo complex in Kihei at the Kihei Ali Kai.  They have one bedroom condos going for like $70/night.  Just pick an area, and look at the studios, one bedroom condos in those areas for the price that you are willing to pay, look at the pics, amenities and reviews and contact the owners.  I will have to say that the Kaanapali area is more expensive when i was looking than Kihei.
  • We use VRBO every time we go to Maui and have had really great experiences.  We always stay in Kihei at Kamaole Sands - it's the perfect location, you can still walk to things and the beach is right across the street.  We love it and will be staying there again this July!!  This will be my 6th time staying at Kam Sands and I love it!

  • We booked our honeymoon studio condo through AlohaCondos.com and loved it! We were right on napili bay and our beachfront lanai was awesome! We were able to save money and cook at the condo and make our own drinks and just walk down the stairs to the beach. We plan to go back to the same place for DH's 30th birthday next year.
  • We did VRBO at Honua Kai for our wedding coming up in 6 weeks.  We've heard nothing but good things about the property...cant wait;)

They're a bit pricey (and all two bedrooms), but we always stay at the Kahana Village. Oceanfront, gorgeous grounds, managers on location (that's a big thing for me). Unit #3 is BREATHTAKING.
  • we used  VRBO to book at Honua Kai.  The pricing we received was well below normal.

We got to stay in a very nice resort, and the owners supplied us with boogie boards, beach towels, washer/dryer and laundry soap, kitchen utensils, etc.  It was like being home away from home.

I orginally found them on VRBO, but I cant recall what their link was, I know I posted it in my reviews.
