Veils and trains?

So I found a dress I love and my mom really likes it too. However, when I told her that I was ordering it without a train and I have no intention of wearing a veil, she freaked out telling me that I wouldn't look or feel like a "real bride." I really want her to be happy, but I don't really want those details, particularly for an outdoor DW. What are you all doing or think about this?

I haven't made a decision on the veil yet, but I probably will opt for hair flowers instead. As for the train, I am definitely not doing one. I'm getting married on the beach and a train would just be something to drag & track sand everywhere. My dress is going to be floor length, but really just brush the tops of my feet.

Love your dress!!!  Gorgeous on you!!!

I am rocking them both even though I'm getting married on the beach :)  I'll have a bustle for after the ceremony and pictures.  Then I'm changing into my short dress for the rest of the day, but I'm still going to rock my veil the entire day.  I'm getting married at 9 am, so I'm excited to celebrate all day long!  The veil is fingertip length.

I am wearing a tea length dress so a bustle is out.  I am however doing a veil.  Just a small birdcage veil. Will do tropical flowers in my hair, as well.

Also, do whatever makes you happiest!  It's your day and it's important to dress however will make you most comfortable.

I didn't wear one and still felt married 'n all.  I actually borrowed a friend's (actually, my ex's wife's) and decided it a) wasn't me and b) was FAR too windy for a chapel length veil.

One of my very basic rules of life is don't do something just because it's tradition. If it doesn't work for you then chuck that idea out the window.

I wore a train, elbow length veil and hair flower.  I initially wasn't planning to wear a veil, but decided to go with it b/c it was really important to my mom and not a big deal to me either way.  I ended up being really happy with how everything turned out - especially when the veil was blowing in the breeze during their ceremony.

But to each their own.  If you're firmly against it, then you should do what you want. When it gets to The Big Day, you'll still feel married, and your mom will still think you look like A Real Bride.  :)

I'm not wearing a veil, and today when trying on dresses I asked if they could cut the train off and the sales-woman looked at me like I had two heads. As we are having our wedding outdoors on the grass, I don't want a veil nor a train I have to bustle. But then again, I don't want to look like a 'bride'. I also brought my fiance to the fitting, w/c the sales-woman was also aghast about.... Ultimately, it's about you looking amazing and feeling beautiful and comfortable on your day, and judging by your photo you look fabulous. So exciting!

</div><div>I'm with Kimmy, my dress is going to be tea length so I can feel more fluid.  I'll be rocking flowers in my hair though.  Knowing me if I had a veil  I'll end up with the veil on the side of the road at some point.  Your dress is beautiful.  </div>

    your dress is beautiful!

It's YOUR day so do what YOU want to do! I knew that a veil just wasn't for me. I didn't even try one on with my dress. I just knew I didn't want to have to deal with it blowing everywhere and people pulling on it when hugging me. I also felt like it didn't go with my look. I DEFINITELY still felt like a bride though :) I had a train but it was a shorter one so it wasn't too bad :) Let us know what you choose!
