TO get a videographer or NOT...last minute consideration!!

Re: TO get a videographer or NOT...last minute consideration!!

  • I am a video professional, and it honeslty wasn't a priority to me. How often will you watch it? Probably never. To me it was more important to have amazing photos than a video that no one will ever watch.

That being said, since both me and DH are video pros, we decided last minute to hire someone just to shoot the ceremony and hand us the tape before the left. We did the editing when we got home and we were glad to have it so we could show the people who couldn't make it. Even then, we didn't make them watch the whole thing... just a cute 15 second clip.
  • We didn't have one and I now regret it.  You're so busy the day of that most of it is a blur. A video account of it would have been nice.

  • We went back and forth about videography. We thougnt it would be nice but it was pricey. So here we are 35 days out and we just booked our videographer last night! The thing that helped our decision was all of our friends and family who couldn't make the wedding but asked if we would have more than just pictures for them to see. We figure that they will all watch it and we will probably watch it at least once a year on our anniversary.  Plus to go along with what Tanq said, we were really touched watching other couples videos and it made us feel like we wanted one more.

  • Yep, it goes by so fast and it really was all a blur to me after it was all over with. I would recommend a videographer 110%....I think I have watched our wedding video a dozen times, and it will be fun to show my kids someday. It was also nice to show it to our family and friends who couldn't make it to Hawaii. And the videographer also captures moments that you didn't even know were going on...people dancing, pointing out your wedding details to each other, wiping a tear from their eye during the ceremony. Pictures are worth a thousand words, but a video brings it alllll back.

  • I highly, highly recommend getting a video!  While you won't watch it every night, it is so amazing to have it on video.  We can see all of our friends and family on video for years to come - hearing their voices, seeing their true personalities.  They are just something you can't get from pictures.

I treasure our wedding video like gold, I would do it again in a second!!

  • I had one at my first wedding and never watched it. So we decided not to get one. I think my dad will probably bring his video camera so we may just catch a bit of the ceremony so we can share it with people who aren't going to be there, but I don't need anything professional.

  • I'm with Tanq. I watch same day edits over and over and cry at strangers' videos. lol. So I had to have one! Haha

  • We are paying money for the photographer.  We will have a friend casually take video here and there.  Paying someone to video our wedding is quite low on our list.

  • I'm not a very sentimental person so no videographer for us ... rather look to the future then the past :) But if that's not you then go for it. I think that kje's plan sounds like fun.

  • Fi didn't want one cause he doesn't like looking at himself in pics/movies so we originally didn't book one, but in the end, I changed my mind.  I really don't want to regret anything and I am afraid that I will be so overwhelmed on the day that I won't really remember what was said, etc!!

I wasn't planning on getting one but after reading this now I'm questioning myself. We are eloping so nobody will actually see us get married. I wonder if someone would doma ceap 15 minute video since our ceremony will be short anyway.

  • Thanks ladies!!!  OMG..I NEED a money tree!!!  lol  For all you who got one and are still reading this...can you list who you got!!??  Thanks!!!!
  • Who did you get last night jessj!??
  • We are using Etan from Maui Style Media....he's not always in Maui though....sometimes he is in Florida.  He was the one our WC recommended and he was willing to negotiate price/times with us.  He shoots documentary-ish style videos....they look really good!

  • Studio Red.  They are absolutely amazing, but if you're worried about budget, they're not a good choice :-)

Hawaiian Video Memories was recommended by our WC before she realized our expectations, LOL.  I recall them being kind of unreasonable when you compared quality to price.

All of the other companies we looked at were based on Oahu and pricey since travel was required.

  • I didn't get one (was far down my list of priorities), and I'm really okay with that. Honestly, I much prefer remembering it from my point of view rather than see it from someone else's. Does that make sense? I'm a live theatre kinda gal.
