Cherry Wood Floor

Our new kitchen has cherry floor. How do we wash/clean it?

I've been doing a bit of research and I've learned that we should not have the floor wet, but clean it with something damp. a 1:10 vinegar:water solution seems to be popular.

How do you guys clean your wooden floor? Any suggestions?

The previous owners didn't really leave the floor clean, we had to sweep it and there are some sticky spots that I need to remove, but I want to do it after knowing what exactly we are supposed to do.

  • I would probably go with the water/vinegar solution you mentioned. I'd stay cleair of any harsh cleaners in the fear that it may lighten the color. Vinegar is a really good gental/natural cleaner that you can use. I even put it in our laundry!

  • I just use cleaners like pinesol and it doesn't harm the floors when i mop. But your right, you shouldn't leave your floor wet.

When we had them I used a water/vinegar mixture in a spray bottle with a dry mop. But I'm a bit of a hippie and prefer to use natural cleaning products for almost everything.

  • I've always heard of people (including my mom) cleaning their wood with Murphy oil.  I's specifically designed for wooden floors.
