I feel like the most indecisive person ever. -wedding bands-

Yesterday we went to pick up our rings (they came in while I was in Dallas for the Super Bowl). FI got his, it fit perfectly, he loved it. I put mine on, and the half eternity from the engagement ring didn't line up perfectly with the half eternity from the wedding band. We ordered the matching band, yet it still didn't match up. I knew that would drive me nuts and I'm not willing to part with my e-ring for the 1-1.5 months it would take for them to custom make the band to it, so we started looking at rings again.

I ended up deciding on a channel set eternity band instead, so I don't have to worry about the diamonds matching up, and since the diamonds were smaller and the ring was on sale, we got $450 back! (The first time in this whole process where I signed a credit card slip for a credit!) But now I'm starting to think it's too blingy for me and I should have just gone with a plain band.

When we went to pick out rings the first time they didn't have any flat plain bands, so I couldn't really picture the look I wanted. But now I'm thinking if I get one made to the same thickness & width of my e-ring, it would be perfect.

I've never been one that's super flashy or into a ton of bling. The only jewelry I wear other than my e-ring are: tiny diamond studs I wear every day, a custom made peapod necklace I bought from etsy (3 peas to represent me, my mom, and my dad), and my college ring. I never even considered having diamonds on my e-ring other than the center diamond until FI proposed with this beautiful ring.

What do you guys think?

FI has been really sweet in this process saying that I should just do whatever I'll be happy with, but I'm afraid I'm going to annoy him (and our jeweler!) since I can't make up my mind! It shouldn't be this big of a deal, I know, but I want to be happy with my choice since it's something I'm going to live with forever. I just really wish they had a plain band that was similar to what I was looking for at the store so I didn't have to keep shooting in the dark!

and, honestly... I think it'd be really nice to go back to the store and sign another credit card slip for a credit of $700+

Your FI is right.  Only you know what your style is and what you will want forever.  All 3 styles sound pretty timeless, but maybe you should run into a store tomorrow and try a plain band so you can decide.

I personally went for an eternity band, but bought a plain tungsten band to wear when 1) I feel less blingy, or 2) wear alone when I travel.  FI's ring is also tungsten, so can't be resized.  Maybe I'm weird -- I don't believe in wearing the same ring for life, but instead, wearing something that symbolizes my committment.  Maybe that takes some pressure off?

Do you have pictures of your rings? :) I'd love to see them!

I don't wear much jewellery either (I wear a single black pearl pendant, a Tiffany bangle and my wedding and e-ring) - but I did the half eternity and I don't find it distracting or too blingy at all.

One of the HUGE advantages to the diamonds is it doesn't show all the scratches and fading. The back of my rings have seen better days, but up front, they look great. So, if you're prone to accidents, the diamond route is a great one.

Hm, I don't have pics of everything together, and they're on the other coast now but here's what I can share...

Wedding band, kind of like this:

They sent me a mold of the band without diamonds just to test the size.  Here is the empty mold with the engagement band:

Travel band, bought this actual one:

So my eRing is totally plain, so I opted for bling on the wedding band.  You could always do the reverse, and not need a separate plain band for travel :-)

OH THIS.  Which is why my plain band is tungsten, LOL.  The inside of my eRing has seen far, far  better days.  FI likes to count the chunks missing...

My sister once told me that as you get older you'll look at your wedding ring and wish it was bigger or blingy-er. I never really thought i'd feel that way, but sometimes when I see my friends who have 1 carat or .75 carat diamond engagement rings, i feel like my .5 carat is so small. I have tiny hands though and think my solitaire diamond suits my finger perfectly. I too don't wear any jewelry other than tiny (fake) stud earrings but I think i'll be going for a wrap style wedding band. Perhaps somethin like this:

Oh - and i completely agree about the band showing scratches and nicks, mine already is! :( My vote is to stick with the channel set eternity band!

Good point about the scratches. I keep forgetting about that! Tanq, do you wear the tungsten band on its own or with the e-ring?
  • edited December 2011
Either, really, but I plan to wear it mostly on its own, 1) so I don't scratch the ering (tungsten is brutal) and 2) because if it was safe enough where I was to wear the ering, it's safe enough to wear the band.

I always pictured myself as a plain band kind of girl, but somehow, I find the 2 plain bands together is just a little plain for my taste.  Guess that reinforces sparklegirl's point :)

If you guys can afford it, go for the bling now!  I got a simple band that is sculped to my e-ring (it's a twisty ring, as I call it) for now because the bling band was almost as expensive as my e-ring, and FI has already promised to upgrade it to the diamond band at 10 years.  Maybe I can convinve him 5 is enough, lol :)

I got my band from Na Hoku. They have some styles that are more simplistic, but have a Hawaiian touch. Perfect example is hubbys ring. It's a simple, plain band on the outside, but the inside has maile leave engraved. He gets to think it's cool and manly, but we both know how unique and special it really is.

FI bought my e-ring as a wedding set, the band is made specifically for the e-ring so it looks funny wearing the wedding band alone.  I might have to pick up another wedding band if I choose to wear the band only.

As for FI's ring he wants one of these two:
This one is Titanium with Blood Wood inlay

    or
18K yellow gold, 14K palladium white gold, 14K red gold and sterling silver in tight wood grain pattern, mokume gane which is the art of japanese metal twisting
