Olowalu Plantation House

Dear friends!
We are planning for a wedding at Olowalu plantation house Oct 2011, and we are looking for some kind advice. Currently trying to book a caterer.

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding that?
Also, what do you think about renting a tent?
I'm a little afraid of what these "bathhouses" are like - anyone been there?
Did you do an afterparty given the noise curfew?

Any advice would be so much appreciated!!!!

Check out the planning pages for some of the ladies who already ad their weddings there.  Most of them have reviews on the vendors.

Love the location! Welcome to the board!

The bathrooms are industrial, to say the least. The tent needs to be put up at the side of the house, which doesn't get the best views... most of us opt to go without the tent there (although, if you can afford the canopy tables, they look amazing).

I used Celebrations Catering (out of the Haili'imale General Store) and they were AMAZING. Seriously, best food and service of my life. I know others have had great reviews with them too, but lately the contact there has been less than professional. =( They do have amazing food though.

Lots of people do the afterparty route; we didn't. Everyone was beat!

    Thanks for the welcome! :)
I guess I am always afraid of the rain, and the lack of a backup option at OPH and hence the tents...it would be a shame not to have the nice views to appreciate though.

Well, if you have the money, then by all means, order a back-up tent. Depending on your guest count, you may be able to use the lanai as a back-up!

I sent you a PM, but the knot crashed as it was sending. Let me know if it didn't go through!

I am getting married at Olowalu in July and we are using Food For the Soul catering.  Tina and her husband Rob are fabulous to work with and I have heard nothing but amazing things from other brides who have used them.

We opted not to go with a tent because of the location where it must be placed.  Plus, we didn't want to feel like we were inside when we were going there to have a wedding in Hawaii!  If it sprinkles a bit, we will deal with it, but I'm not at all worried about a hard rain as through all the years I've gone to Maui I have never seen a real hard rain - but it does happen.

Plus, tents are pretty expensive unless you just go with a bare bones tent, once you start looking at the lighting and fabric draping it gets expensive really fast.

We are arriving on island 4 days before the wedding, we'll look at the weather then and decide if we really need one but as of right now it's a huge NO to the tent.

As for an after party since the venue does close at 10pm, we are still deciding on this.  I really want one cause I know I will want this day to last forever, it's just a matter of figuring out the logistics of it all.  We are going to be based in Kihei so I have a few ideas, but we have to figure out how many people would show up cause kids will NOT be allowed at the after party!

PS - The bridal party is welcome to use the restroom in the house, but guests cannot.   The bath house, while not fancy, is better than an outhouse!  And you won't have to use it, so that is nice.

I am getting married at Olowalu in May 2011. We visited the house this May and we were told the bathrooms would be renovated (sounded like some updating but not a new bathroom facility) before our wedding. They were clean and okay when we saw them. You'll need some lights around that area of the house to find them. It's a gorgeous place. We aren't having a tent. I'd love to dining canopies but they are quite expensive.

We are using Aloha Events for our catering. We did a tasting and the food was awesome. It's very high quality and the owners (female) were professional.

    Good luck with your planning!

    Hi Ladies,
I too am trying to decide whether to tent or not to tent.  Just got word from my coordinator that a lot of leaves and what have you fall from the trees at olowalu, hence, a tent is highly suggested....was this a problem for anyone who opted for no tent? I am getting married in june so I am not too concerned with rain, now more concerned about possible debris...?
    Thank you !
