North shore wedding too windy??

Hi! I am trying to decide on renting a house in Honolulu and the north shore for my wedding venue. Both house rental locations would be beach/ocean front. I am very worried about the weather though. My wedding is planned for August 2013. I know the temps are in the mid 80s. Does anyone know how much it rains on the north shore? Does the rain last long? How windy is it on the north shore? Honolulu? I don't want to be saying my vows with my veil, dress, and hair blowing all over the place. I like how beautiful and less crowded the north shore is but I need some practical advice about the weather. Anyone have first hand experiences or know anything about the north shore weather??

Re: North shore wedding too windy??

  • jm, Personally I would go with the North Shore. Have you ever been to Oau before?  Honolulu and Waikiki are very commercial and extremely overcrowded. Some places in the North Shore are crowded as well, but it's a totally different vibe up there. It's a  much more laid back relaxed Hawaii that most people think of. It just depends on what kind of feel you are going for. Parking can be an issue in Honolulu and I wouldn't count on a beach rental having more than 1 or 2 parking spots. In Honolulu the beach houses tend to be closer together where you may have more privacy at the North Shore depending on the area.  As far as the weather, I wouldn't not worry about it. I am in Honolulu and In the entire month of August it "rained" a handful of times. Rain here in August is usually a passing shower that lasts 10 minutes and it's always sunny out at the same time hence the rainbows so its nothing that would ruin your day. Same goes for the North Shore. I don't think the North Shore is considered the windward side of the island where it is much more windy than Honolulu. But keep in mind wherever you choose there will be a breeze.  Hope this helps!
  • Hi knockout! Thanks for the tip. I've been to Oahu several times but have never spent time on the north shore. I've only driven through the area. I agree with the lack of privacy and there being a lot of people in the Honolulu area.
  • I know this sounds strange but if you go to youtube and just do a search for North Shore wedding ceremonies you can see if the bride's hair and vail are blowing around. Maybe it would ease your mind a little!
  • north shore is not as rainy as the winward side and durign the summer even when it rains its only for short periods of time

  • Knockout- great advice! i will do that!!

itravelsize- thanks for the tip.  I've been hearing that it's not bad.  You guys are making this decision much easier for me :)
  • besides the wind, consider where you guests will be staying.  North Shore is great if everyone is staying on that side, but if your guests are in Waikiki it is about 1 hour 15 minute drive.
