Cabana rentals in Wailea?

Long shot but I know some of the people on this board are more familiar with Maui.  We wanted to rent a poolside cabana at one of the hotels for the day after the wedding - a place where we can hang out all day and friends can stop by to visit, have a drink or food, perhaps a dip in the pool. 

We were going to do it at the Grand Wailea but apparently their pool-access is heavily restricted only to guests and a cabana rental only gets you 4 wrist bands.

Does anyone happen to know if all of the Wailea area hotels are this strict?  Or do you have any ideas of another one that WILL rent cabanas to non-guests and allow us to have people visit?  

I am going to call the Fairmont and the Marriott but thought it couldn't hurt to throw this out for suggestions.

I would try the Makena Beach & Golf Resort. I'm not sure about their poolside access, but I know they have what you're talking about with the pool lanai.

Hmm...there's nothing like that, which I know of, unfortunately...  Most resorts that I've been to have cabana rentals and pool use as part of their guest services (i.e. guests only - I think it's just what you get for staying at their hotel and hidden in the rate).  I don't know how it would work for outside guests, especially when it comes to towel rentals, use of changing rooms, etc.  

If something like that exists, I'd imagine that they would want you to pay a fee per guest (i.e. you'd have to tell them a set number in advance, so they know how many to expect), rather than people dropping by anytime that day.  But you never know... it never hurts to ask!

If that doesn't work out, why don't you plan a beach day instead?  I know a few knotties have done that before.  Beaches are public and there are often picnic tables or BBQ areas available.  You can't reserve them though, so you'd have to get there early.  Hope this helps!

The cabanas at the Marriott aren't really big enough for people to come hangout at -- not more than like 4 people at a time, or 2 with chairs.  This is from our TTD shoot:

I think they were about $300 per day for hotel guests to rent -- do not know if they would rent to a non-guest.  I highly doubt it.  No idea how strict they are about access being limited to guests only, but I also have no idea how they would check since you can walk through the lobby & to the pool without anyone checking for ID / room key.  Your guests would NOT be able to have towels, though, unless they brought their own -- which would probably raise eyebrows.  Finally, a point to consider is that this is the 'serenity pool' which is for adults only and NOT meant for a rowdy group.  I cannot remember if they had cabanas by the other pool(s) as we never went there

If you use the day spa at the grand wailea i believe you have access to their property for the day...not sure if that includes the rental of a cabana tho...you can do the treme baths...highly recommended...for about $50/p it gives you around two hours in the baths i believe.  However, i agree with pp that doing a beach day may be your best bet.  I know the ones at the four season are pretty luxe and large but again not sure how it works if you are not a guest.HTH!
