Hotels in Maui

I am new to this board however I have been ready it for a few weeks. All though my username states moh, I am now a bride... We have been engaged for 4 years (don't ask what's taking so long, I don't really know). Anyways I am looking for affordable hotel suggestions for our guests to stay. We are thinking we we will have about 20 guests. I have been working with a local travel agent in Ohio, but she of course recommended some of the most expensive hotels. We are thinking about $150-200 a night range. It is going to cost a lot together there and get around. All suggestions are welcome! Thanks in advance and I look forward to chatting with everyone.

Oh I guess I should say we are looking at June 2013.

Thanks,
Anna

Re: Hotels in Maui

  • Hi Anna, Welcome!

We're getting married on Kaanapali beach area so I know that side best from all our research. Try the Royal Lahaina Resort, Kaanapali Beach Hotel, Pioneer Inn in Lahaina, and dont discount the condo rentals by owners- if it sleeps 2 you might get a great deal. I will say that 150 is almost impossible in Maui- and you're looking at the roof or air conditioner or wall of another building. If the budget works to expand to $250, you can get a much better view and value. Also try the Aston Hotels, they are no frills in general but offer a beach location.
  • If your not opposed to Condos you can check VRBO.com. We got a great deal for a 2 bed/2bath for 159 a night and a 1 bed for 99. I just emailed the owners to see if they would give us a price break and they agreed. We will be staying in condos the first week to keep costs down and then moving to the Royal Lahaina for our HM week. I am not sure how much the room is for that week because we booked a package through Costco, but we felt for what we are gettting its a great deal. The package is an ov room for 7 nights, convertible, $200 resort credit, luau, dinner cruise, breakfast each day and 2 for 1 couples massage, total was just under $2600 including taxes and fees.
  • I am also going to suggest the Royal Lahaina although it will probably be more in the $200 to $250 range. The rooms are nice. Hawaiian touches, but modern. And this side of the beach (north of Black Rock) was so much quieter. The pool isn't great, but the beach here is beautiful. No resort fee and parking is $10/$15 for self-park or valet. The restaurant was pretty good and they have a daily happy hour. Good luck!

  • Hi, welcome and congratulations!  We're staying at the Houna Kai Resort in West Maui.  I actually booked it through VRBO and got a great deal.  A little less than $200 /night for a one bedroom ocean view, full size ktichen and WD room.  Restaurant onsite and I believe three large pools.
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • What side of the island will the wedding be taking place? That makes a big difference on hotel recommendations.
  • We loved the Ka'anapali Beach Club!  I don't know if it fits your budget though. We didn't pay for our stay as it was a wedding gift.

  • I'm so totally for the condo option. We had a bunch of guests stay at the Polynesian Shores for 99$ a night, and the view is unbeatable. You cannot get the proximity to the ocean for that price at a hotel!
  • Thank you for all of your suggestions! They have really helped out.
  • Maui Coast Hotel in Kihei is about $130 - $150 a night, and I thought it was a great value - the rooms were actually nicer than the Sheraton and Westin, and they upgraded me for free to a suite.
