What day of the week?

I'm thinking about having our wedding on a weekday (Mon-Thurs). I don't have a preference either way, but am trying to figure out what would be easiest/cheapest for my guests. What do you guys all think? Isn't it cheapest to fly on Wed or Thurs?

Thanks for the opinions!!

Re: What day of the week?

  • From what I've seen rates are not any different. Especially in Maui where weddings are so popular, all the vendors I've talked to, their prices are the same any day of the week. I'm marrying on a Thursday in hopes that it will be less busy at the beach.
  • We got married on a Thursday since everyone was on vacation anyway and most of our guests came to Hawaii for at least a week

  • Most of our guests are flying in the Friday or Sunday before and we are marrying on a Thursday. The venue wasn't any cheaper but the flights on Sun. and returning on Friday afternoon were.
  • The wedding is on a Thursday for me, but now that I think about it I wish I had chosen a Tuesday, that way guests can fly in go to the wedding and enjoy the rest of the week as their vacation and my fiance and I could join them in activities, instead of running around and prepping for the wedding.  But M-Th is your choice, cost wise is all the same.

I noticed that my guests were able to book the best fares by flying in and out on Tuesday or Wednesday.  If that's the case around the time when you get married, a Thursday wedding would work well.  The wedding would be one of the first things they attended and then it would be all fun from there.

However, most people don't like to miss more than a week.  Their inclination, if you have a Thursday wedding, will likely be to try and return to the mainland on Sunday.
  • Our wedding is on a Sunday. We are flying in Thursday night and so are most of our guests. Some are flying home Saturday evening, this way they only miss 6 days of work, but get 8 full days in Hawaii (plus Thursday evening.)

  • At the time of our wedding, it seemed Tues / Weds flights to Hawaii were cheapest.  As for hotels, I think it has less to do with the day of the week and more to do with the time of year.  Christmas, New Year, and Spring Break are peak travel times, so hotels are less likely to give great promotional discounts.

Our wedding was on a Saturday, so most guests took Friday off or flew out after work on Friday (doable due to time difference) and some returned home on Sunday -- not much work needed to be missed at all for those with inflexible jobs.  That, more than price, was the most important thing for our set of guests.

Also, your venue may give weekday discounts over weekends, so check on that, too.

  • The venue is a bit cheaper (Olowalu), by around $500 I think.

Thursday is what we were thinking as well...figured airfare would be cheapest on Tues/Wed. I have noticed this year that flights start rising about 3rd week of June, so we have opted for potentially the 2nd week.

How is the weather at that time? Will I fry? lol.
  • I'll have my wedding on Friday (afternoon and evening).

Most of our guests will go from either NYC or Asia. If they just want to attend our wedding and don't want to stay any longer, they can just take one Friday off from their work. (Most of our guests work in health care field, so it may not be easy for them to take one week off for attending a wedding...)

  • We got married on a Tuesday at Olowalu in Maui - it is cheaper during the week and since we were all there from out of state there was no need to have it on the weekend and pay more.

  • We are getting married on a Thursday.  We didn't notice a difference with the price of flights on different days of the week.  A lot of our guests are doing a full week from the Sat/Sun before to the Sat/Sun after.  There are a few people who can't take as much time off and they are coming in on Wednesday.
  • We are getting married on a Wednesday, only because 12-12-12 happens to fall on a Wednesday, so it looks like most guests are flying in the weekend before and leaving the weekend after. I do believe it is cheaper to fly out on Tuesday or Wednesdays, though. But I think it also depends on the time of the year.

  • We did a Tuesday too, because flights from Vancouver tended to run on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • We got married on a Wednesday! Most of our guests went to Maui for a week and flew sat-sat or sun-sun so we wanted to have our wedding smack in the middle! And it was a little cheaper at Olowalu not having the wedding on F-S.
    Good luck!

  • We are getting married on a Monday - we fly in on Saturday and I wanted to have the ceremony and be able to enjoy the rest of the week with my guests. Most people are flying in on Saturday and leaving Thursday or Friday.
  • Getting married on a Tuesday, not because of cost but it happens to be our anniversary.  However, when I was researching for wedding packages and things, several offered weekday discounts.  I am also a fan of weekday due to fewer people on beaches.
