Hawaii

Kauai Wedding

Hi,
I'm new to TK and my fianc and I are planning to marry in Kauai in February or early March 2014. I will have about 20 guests and I have about a 4000 budget for everything. I don't want anything too formal but I don't know where to start. Ive heard of going to a luau instead of having a reception but I don't really know how that works and I'm not sure about sharing that day with strangers. I know I want an intimate ceremony possible by waterfalls or in a garden. I have never been to Hawaii and need some direction. Any help is appreciated!

Re: Kauai Wedding

  • Fellow Kauai bride here, congrats!

Many wedding companies offer packages for waterfall weddings, usually they are small.
I found a bunch on google:
I say pick a spot, then find a restaurant nearby to have a reception dinner.

McBride Garden does a waterfall wedding but you have to bring in all your supplies including potable water. I think Smith's has one as well.

    Good luck!
  • <div>A lot of brides like Plantation Gardens restaurant. It's on the southside. You can do ceremony and reception in one place. This is their website: <a href="http://pgrestaurant.com/weddings" rel="nofollow">http://pgrestaurant.com/weddings</a></div><div>

  • I got married at Plantation Gardens and I LOVED IT!  Mona, the coordinator there, was fantastic.  If you work with her you won't need another planner.  The food & drinks were exceptional, the setting was beautiful, and we were thrilled with the service.

Let me know if you have any questions about the site.
  • Hello,

I'm not getting married on Kaui but I am considering booking my wedding reception dinner at Merriman's Kapalua on Maui in their oceanfront cabana.  I will have 20 guests and the dinner has a food & beverage minimum of $2000.  I'm thinking with wedding cake, alcohol, taxes etc. I can do the entire dinner for under $2500- $3000.  We are having a simple beach ceremony with our friends and family standing around us, we have chosen a  package (including pictures, officiant, florals, leis etc.) and our entire expense for both the ceremony and reception dinner will be around $5500.  I know your budget is less but there were all sorts of wedding company packages for simple beach ceremonies and photos that were less than the one we chose ($2050)...but I am just in love with the photographer they use, so she's worth it to me.

There is a Merriman's on Kauai as well but I don't know if it is similar??  On Maui, they are fine dining and one of the leading choices in restaurants for wedding receptions.

On another note, I have been to Kauai 3 times and it's so beautiful.  I have taken a cattamaran tour of the Na Pali Coast every single visit using an awesome company by the name of "Kauai Sea Tours".  They are wonderful and this might be something you and your guests would enjoy as an excursion.  A trip to Kauai without seeing Na Pali, in my opinion, means you haven't seen Kauai at all!

    Happy Planning!
    Angels on your day

  • <div>I'm planning my wedding on Kauai too. I hadn't thought of a Luau for the reception but that might be super cool if you go to the right one.  I've been there a couple times before and did the Luau thing with my friends both times.  The absolute BEST place for a Luau was the Grand Hyatt on the South Shore (I did one in Kapaa before discovering the Hyatt and it was a total JOKE; you gotta be careful which one you pick for sure).  </div><div>
</div><div>The Hyatt had AMAZINGLY good food and the show was not at all cheesy like the other one I went to the time before that.  The other cool thing I liked about going there was that after the Luau and show were over we headed into Stevenson's Library upon the referral of an employee there and there was a live Jazz band playing and the most amazing bar made out of Koa wood.  It was an awesome place to sit and have a good time.  I'm for sure taking my bridal party there after my wedding for some drinks and music.  You should check it out for sure.  Of the beaches I've been to there I recommend Secret Beach, Tunnels, or Ke'e for daytime weddings and someplace on the South Shore for a sunset like Salt Pond or Baby Beach maybe?  Check out this gals blog she had a lot of great information on Hawaii weddings and has quite a few articles about weddings that helped me a lot! </div><div>
