NWR: Helping tornado victims

Hello ladies!  I hope you all had a marvelous weekend and got to enjoy the beautiful weather.  I spent Saturday in Cullman, my hometown, helping out in tornado relief efforts.  I did a tour of the places that I hold dear and thought I would share a picture.  The below is the house next to my old house. This is the House of Seven Gables in the historic district.  The house is at least 105-years-old.  Or, rather, was.  It will not make it through this. (The picture is a pic of the display on my camera- sorry!)

If you want to help out, even if you don't live in the affected areas, go to the Toomer's for Tuscaloosa Facebook page.  When the Toomer's trees were poisoned, Alabama fans created a page called "Tide for Toomer's" to raise money to help Auburn restore the oaks.  Now, Auburn fans are doing big things to raise money and gather items for tornado victims.  They are sending people from across the country to every affected area in the state.

FMIL is taking clothes up to Tuscaloosa to give out to people who lost all of their clothes in the storms.  I have collected everything from newborn baby clothes to 3XL men's clothes to send up there with her.  My church is also taking donations to send cash to a church in south Tuscaloosa that told us they have all the volunteers they need but are running out of resources.

Me too!  It just hit so close to home that I can't help but help.  I have a friend from Cullman and a friend from Pleasant Grove, and FI has family just outside Tuscaloosa.  The families in Cullman and Tuscaloosa survived and have their homes, the family in Pleasant Grove survived but I understand that their house is destroyed.

What's your friend's name in Cullman?  It's gotten big enough to where I don't know most people but I might!  I lived there 20 years!

I'm so glad everyone you know that was affected are okay!

The church from my hometown in Enterprise is raising money and donating supplies. I love that so many people are coming together to help out.

My FI's aunt goes up to Cullman monthly for treatments for her MS and they were up there this weekend. I'm interested to see what they say about all of it.

I have been needing to go through my closets for a long time, and after all of this I finally did. I ended up giving about 5 garbage bags full of clothes to Tuscaloosa Emergency Services. I am lucky enough to have come out of the storm unharmed so I knew I needed to do something in return.

I live in cullman and less then a mile away from the "danger zone" i know that it is really bad in other areas to. if anyone can help to cullman caring for kids that would be great they are all out of food and need help. I have been helping with passing out food and water to people and i call it a honor to be able to move and clean the new ambulance station.

<div>I went home last week.  My old house is in the historic district on 278- about a block or so from the Cullman Times.  It's a gruesome scene.  I may head up there again this weekend.  If you can send me a list of what Caring for Kids might need, I will get right on gathering donations!</div>

I also had friends in the damaged areas. I know people in Cullman, Pleasant Grove, and Tuscaloosa... as well as the nearby town of Ohatchee/Wellington where many of my friends lost their homes. It is so good to see the state come together and support everyone!
