marriage license requirements?

Anyone already gotten a marriage license? I'm trying to figure out if I need witnesses to sign it (pretty sure I do) and if there is any requirement for who can sign it. The reason I need to know is that my sister is my maid of honor, but she's only 15 so I need to find out if she can sign it or if it needs to be someone over 18. Anyone know?

Are you talking about when you first apply at the probate office? Because if so I think who ever is working there would be the witness. I think.  lol What about the BM if your talking about when the preacher signs it?

I signed my sister's ML in 2006 and I was 17 so I don't think there is a "rule" about it. At the wedding they signed it...then the MOH and the Best Man signed it and the preacher signed it.

Marriage license requirements can vary from county to county. It would be best to call your local Register of Deeds office. Also if you live in a different county then where you are getting married, you may need to go to the county where you are getting married. Make some phone calls to cover all your bases.

Where I live, they didn't ask for a witness at any point for the license. When you pick up the license, the person at the probate office will probably sign it for that purpose.

In Mobile, they do not ask for witnesses.  So you'll have to look into the laws in the particular county where you plan to get married.
