Wedding Dress Rental

Ok, I'm on a tight budget and looking for ways to save money, I was thinking about renting my wedding dress vs buying one. I figure am only going to wear it once, so I don'thisneed to spend 400-1000 on a dress that I'm going to store somewhere in my basement after my wedding. Please let me know if you think this is a good idea. I'm also open to the idea of buying used, I have been looking on craigslist as suppose to ebay because I would prefer to be able to try on the dress before I but it. Any suggestions where I can rent or buy a used dress?
Thanks.

Re: Wedding Dress Rental

  • I'm not sure about who or where to rent from that specailizes in wedding dresses, but I think it's a good idea, if you can find the right size and someplace reputable. The downside might be the size factor- you might have a hard time if you can't alter things, I know I would because I'm pretty short but not exactly petite elsewhere, so everything has to be hemmed. It might be worth checking out renttherunway.com - my FMIL and her sister swear by it, but I don't know if they offer wedding dresses or things that would work as wedding dresses.

If you want to buy a dress, you can absolutely find them for pretty cheap too, just don't look for "wedding" dresses. You can find white bridesmaids dresses or white dresses at a department store for just around $100- which is probably what renting would end up being anyway with shipping included. Also, check out the David's Bridal $99 dress sale. Check out vintage shops too and even Goodwill (I have actually seen wedding dresses there) there are a lot of options around the area.
