Little Rock: Budget cake and flowers

I'm pretty low maintenance and am not going to want anything elaborate.  I 'd like my bouquets to look like a wispy gathering of wildflowers, and have no problem with a small and simple cake, but everything I look at seems exorbitant price-wise.  Anybody have any good suggestions for these two elements?

Would I be completely insane to go to Kroger on my wedding day and pick out some flowers?  The thought seems to completely horrify my mother....  As do many of my ideas.. Tongue Out

  • I don't see what the problem would be. Getting married isn't a performance. ;

    <div>Sounds familiar! I would scope out the Kroger flowers at some point, maybe even make a practice bouqut, but if you saw what you wanted, I'd say absolutely! Arranging them wouldn't be too terrible if you're after whimsical anyway, and some fabric or ribbon and fabric glue would bind them fine, I would think :) But! Don't put too much on yourself day-of, wouldn't want to be so strapped for time or 'dear Lord, there's a reason I'm not a florist" that you can't have an awesome time! :D</div>
  • The Kroger Bakery also makes beautiful cakes, too. But if that's too shocking for your poor mother, the Community Bakery downtown has (by fair) quoted me the fairest prices as far as our cakes go. We're getting our groomscake from there for a very reasonable price. As for flowers, a lot of places will deliver them wholesale so that you can arrange them yourself. They tend to last a little longer than Kroger Flowers so you could do the arranging before the rehearsal dinner the day before and not be strapped for time and stressed the day of.
