Changing your name for your social security card

OK so I'm about to start the name change process and since I'm off for the summer I figured it'd be easier to just go to the social security office versus mailing the forms.  I live in Newark so the closest Social Security office is in Elkton, Maryland.  DH said that it doesn't matter since SS cards are not state issued but I wanted to double check with someone who may have already gone through the process.  Can I go to Maryland or do I have to go through the New Castle branch since that is where I'm actually living?

I just went to the one in New Castle. It was easy to get to, and since it links to the DMV I think you are just best going there with the forms pre-completed and ready to go. I was in and out in like 15 minutes.
