Cakes-Sorry if this has been covered before

Hey ladies!I am not a regular on here, so there is a good chance that this topic has been covered.  I looked back a few pages and did not see anything about cake recommendations.  I am getting married at White Clay Creek Country Club and they have 6 bakeries that they deal with (cake is included in package.) Has anyone used/known someone who has used any of these:Bings Bakery (Newark)Cakes by Kim (Wilmington)Cannons Bakery (Newark)Cakes and Desserts by Liz Marden (Hockessin)Serpe and Sons Inc. (Elsmere)Sweets to You by Ginger (Wilmington)I have checked out reviews online, but I check out the DE board and you guys seem to know your stuff!  Any advice would be super appreciated! Thanks!

Sweets to you by Ginger!! We've been getting her cakes for YEARS! I wish I could use her for my wedding cake....my venue has it included in our package but Ginger's cake is better.

Love, love, love, love serpes cake. I didn't have them for my wedding because my brother's girlfriend has her own business and she did my wedding cake and our phillies groomscake. But I grew up with serpes and they will always be my number one choice for cakes.

We are using Cakes by Kim, as have several close family and friends who have gotten married or are getting married here soon.I have had their cakes before, and they are wonderful.  Honestly, this is the one vendor we wanted, and we had decided that even if our venue did not include the cake from Cakes by Kim, we would try to get a credit so that we could go with her.  We were soooo happy when it turned out that our venue contracts with her.  To be honest, I know some girls have had great success with Ginger, but I have not.  I have had several of her cakes, ordered not only by me but by others, at different events, and every time I have been disappointed.  Others may disagree, but for me, it just hasn't impressed me for the "rave" reviews she gets.Cannons and Serpe both have a good reputation in this area, and would deliver if you went with them.My suggestion?  Go meet with all of them separately, and ask them if they will do a small tasting for you, so that you can decide.  If that doesn't work, find out if they will be at any bridal show and check them out there.  I say do this because every person you ask about each of these will have their own opinion, and I think you are going to get so many different opinions on who is the best that in the end it won't be very helpful.  Checking them out for yourself is the best idea.

We are dealing with the same thing! However I have heard amazing things about Cakes by Kim, but our venue uses Master's Baker in West Chester, Pa. Anyone heard of them- pros/cons?One thing I was told about Cakes by Kim that I thought was great was that instead of taking home your "top" tier and one year later eating old frost bitten cake, she gives you a certificate to bring in for your 1 year anniversary and get the same top tier again! I just thought that was great.

We are using Bings, and they have been great so far.  Carla, the owner is very nice and helpful.  the cakes taste great, and they were very fair with our cake (it comes with our venue package).  They had a great selection of designs included, but were very fair with me upgrading our cake.  Highly reccomend.

I used Cannons and my cake was awesome.  We chose them because of price but we had also always used them for family functions and had never been disappointed.  If cost wasn't a factor for us, I would have went with Ginger or Cakes by Kim.  Honestly I've had cake from all of the above with the exeption of Liz Marden and they are all very good.  I think you are in good hands, so it will just come down to personal preference.

Happywithhim - My venue uses master's bakers. The cake it absolutely delicious. Every raved about it. However, the design was not what I asked for, but I'm not sure if that was my venues fault or the master's bakers. I'm pretty sure it was my venue though.

Sweets to you by Ginger and Cakes by Kim are FABULOUS, but they were not in our budget. We went with Bings and were VERY HAPPY with our yummy cake. :) We did a tasting at Liz Marden's and we were not impressed at all. It was dry (and that could be because everything was pre-boxed unlike bings where you can try all the cake types and mix with all the icings/fillings) and Liz was unable to "break out of the box" when we said we wanted something more fun. She just wanted to do white on white.

I went to a Bridal Dinner a few weeks ago, Sweets To You by Ginger gave out the tops of a few cakes, I was lucky enough to bring one home. It was red velvet/chocolate cake, had to be the BEST cake I've ever had! I'm using them (they come w/our venue thank goodness!) though I've tried emailing them & calling (leave messages) to make an appt. & they are the hardest ppl to get ahold of, ugh!
